Pediatric Cardiac ICU Physician Assistant Job Details

Job Type : Locum Tenens (Travel Contract)

Healthcare Setting : Hospital – Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Location : New Haven, Connecticut 06510

Contract Duration : 6 months (February 9, 2026 – August 10, 2026)

Night Shifts per Week : 3 (Tuesday-Thursday preferred; 1-2 weekends / month, flexible scheduling)

Shift Hours : 12-hour shifts (6 : 00 PM – 6 : 00 AM)

Total Hours per Week : 36

Patient Census : 5-6 pediatric patients per night (up to 10-12 on surgery days)

EMR System : Epic

Hospital Size : 1,541 beds

Hourly Pay Rate : $185 / hr

Estimated Weekly Salary Range : $3,880–$4,160

Physician Assistant Job Requirements

Board certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP)

Minimum 3 years of experience in critical care, ICU, or pediatric cardiac ICU settings

Active state license (Connecticut preferred; open to licensing qualified candidates)

DEA and CSR certifications required

ACLS and PALS certifications required

Proficiency with Epic EMR

Excellent communication and teamwork skills for collaboration with surgeons and interdisciplinary healthcare teams

Ability to provide professional references from previous healthcare facilities

Applicants must not be current Connecticut residents

Clean background required

Key Responsibilities in Pediatric Cardiac ICU

Deliver direct patient care to pediatric cardiac ICU patients during night shifts

Perform advanced clinical procedures : central line placement, intubation, arterial line placement, and bedside rounding

Collaborate with attending physicians, fellows, and surgical teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes

Manage care for 5-6 pediatric patients per night, with increased volume on surgical days

Document and manage patient information using Epic EMR

Participate in flexible scheduling, including some weekend shifts

Maintain high standards of safety, quality, and compliance in pediatric cardiac critical care
