Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island’s Cure Violence Program works to prevent gun violence by 1) mediating conflicts that may end in gun violence, 2) changing the thinking of individuals who are most at risk of being victims or perpetrators of violence, and 3) working closely with a broad coalition of local partners to promote a visible community-wide message that shooting is unacceptable behavior.

The Mental Health Clinician provides therapeutic support to individuals and families impacted by community violence, focusing on promoting positive behavioral changes and fostering community-led public safety.

The role involves connecting participants to mental health services, enhancing coping skills, and reducing the impact of trauma, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other stress responses.

Clinicians collaborate with community programs, offering culturally attuned individual and group sessions to address mental health needs, while also working to strengthen community networks and support systems.

Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to) :

  • Implement culturally relevant, trauma-informed practices for individuals, families, and communities affected by violence.
  • Provide limited counseling, support groups, mentoring, referrals, and self-care training, along with legal and social service assistance.
  • Help participants set and achieve goals, using tools like surveys and evaluations.
  • Assist with legal appointments, entitlements, safety plans, and housing transfers, customizing services to participant needs.
  • Offer practical solutions to everyday challenges.
  • Complete and provide Solution-Focused Therapy after relevant training.
  • Participate in ongoing continuing education.
  • Use Therapy Notes EHR for clinical documentation within 24 hours.
  • Track and document participant data, conflict resolution, mentoring, and referrals as required.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in a mental health field (required); Master’s degree in Social Work or related field (preferred).
  • Strong written, communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Culturally humble with a trauma-informed approach.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, data entry, EHR systems, and video-conferencing platforms
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time, and the ability ort lift 15 pounds.

The salary range for this position is $68,000-$70,000 annually.

This is a full-time hybrid position, 35 hours per week.
