Our client, a nationwide steel distributor and manufacturer, has an immediate need for an experienced Staff Accountant , to join our winning team in Philadelphia.
Our candidate of choice will perform various accounting and finance functions. Primary functions will focus on day-to-day general ledger maintenance and analysis of accounting and financial data in addition to various accounting functions of a sensitive and confidential nature.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
In coordination with the Accounting Manager, will prepare and book necessary entries for month-end close and produce financial and analytical reports for use by management, executive leadership, and board of advisors.
This includes but is not limited to internal financial statements, cash flow projection, MD&A, and Strategic KPI reporting.
Maintains and tracks annual budget and forecast. Provides Accounting Manager with budgetary reports by department for review with department managers, performs budget to actual variance / fluctuation analysis.
On an annual basis, determines departmental overhead allocation.
- Monthly preparation and analysis of balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assists in preparation of workpapers for 401k audit, pension audit and financial statement review in collaboration with the Accounting Manager.
- Co-lead the physical cycle count inventory process.
- Weekly analysis of sales order performance for job profitability and material usage (billed vs. used analysis for inventory accounting).
- Maintain and manage purchase card program.
- Oversee payment of pension annuity taxes and reconcile monthly pension activity. Prepares and compiles data for preparation of annual Form 1099.
- Backup responsibility for payroll processing.
- Backup responsibilities for credit approval on customer orders.
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities as requested.
KEY REQUIREMENTS :
- Bachelor’s degree required, accounting degree preferred, accounting degree requirement can be waived with relevant experience.
- Minimum of three years working in an accounting department.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and financial statement reporting required.
- Problem-solving, adaptability, attention to detail and organizational skills required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
- Experience with Dynamics GP preferred.
- Experience with analytical software (i.e. Power BI) and financial reporting software preferred.
