Requirements

The Center for Multicultural Equity and Access () enhances the education of students who have historically experienced barriers to access and success in higher education because of race, ethnicity, national origin, socioeconomic status, and other marginalized identities.

The vast social and economic inequalities disrupted a sense of justice as we walk with the excluded towards a hope-filled future.

We actively promote access to educational attainment for diverse populations through intentional programming, services, and opportunities.

The ICP Instructor will teach middle school and high school core or elective subjects. They will play a crucial role in fostering intellectual growth, cultural understanding, and personal development among a diverse student population.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess strong patience, teaching, and organizational skills, and demonstrated interest in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Additional duties include, but are not limited to :

Teaching and facilitating Learning

Develop and deliver engaging and interactive lessons, aligned with the program curriculum and objectives.

Utilize instructional strategies to accommodate different learning styles and promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Foster a collaborative and inclusive learning environment that encourages active participation and student engagement.

Mentorship and Guidance

Provide individualized attention and support to students to help them achieve their academic and personal goals.

Serve as a role model and mentor, fostering a sense of community, inclusivity, and cultural sensitivity among the students.

Guide students in their academic and career exploration, offering insights and advice based on your expertise and experiences.

Curriculum Management

Review, revise, and produce curriculum for the Institute for College preparation, 7-12th academic schedule to meet or exceed DC and / or national standards.

Collaborate with fellow instructors to plan interdisciplinary lessons and implement inclusive pedagogy and enhance engagement for the students and instructional continuity content for each grade level.

Identify learning outcomes and curricular-based goals and objectives for each grade, building skills in preparation for higher education.

Structure methods of evaluation for students for each grade.

Guide lesson themes and accompanying exercises, appropriate co-curricular activities, classroom texts, and use of technology.

Professional Development

Stay abreast of the latest developments in your field of expertise and incorporate relevant and current content into your teaching including culturally responsive teaching.

Participate in professional development opportunities, workshops, and training sessions provided by the program to enhance your teaching skills and knowledge.

Actively engage in self-reflection and seek feedback from colleagues and program administrators to continuously improve your instructional practices.

Work Interactions

The Pre-College Instructor will primarily engage with middle and high school students to provide a supportive educational environment.

In addition, the Pre-College instructor reports to CMEA’s Director and / or Faculty Coordinator.

Requirements and Qualifications

Professional experience tutoring or teaching a classroom

Professional or personal experience with underserved students of color

Professional experience with curriculum development and standards of practice

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to connect with and inspire diverse groups of students

A commitment to fostering inclusivity, cultural awareness, and equity in education
