Position Summary :
The Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical-Surgical / Telemetry is responsible for providing high-quality patient care based on the Watson Model of Care.
This includes organizing, planning, coordinating, and managing care for a specific group of patients. The role requires adherence to the hospital's mission, core values, and participation in quality and performance improvement activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Utilize nursing process for problem-solving and to meet patient and family needs
- Conduct nursing assessments, prioritize patient care, and apply current literature / research findings
- Maintain therapeutic nurse / patient relationships and conduct hourly rounding on patients
- Communicate effectively using the SBAR in hand-off situations
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team for patient care and discharge planning
- Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions and document outcomes
- Maintain a safe and clean environment that complies with regulatory standards
- Participate in the unit's Quality and Performance Improvement Plan and assist with new employee orientation
- Provide basic hygiene and ADLs to patients
- Other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager
Position Requirements :
Education :
- Bachelor in Nursing degree preferred
- Associate in Nursing, Nursing Diploma, or equivalent
- Completion of the MLKCH Versant Nurse Residency Program for internal candidates
Qualifications / Experience :
- Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience
- Minimum of 12 months of Med / Surg / Telemetry or Critical Care nursing experience preferred
- Current California Nursing license
- Basic EKG Competence
- Certification in Progressive Critical Care Nursing and Medical / Surgical Nursing preferred
Special Skills / Knowledge :
- Bilingual skills preferred (Spanish)
- Basic computer skills
- Dysrhythmia Course certificate and Electronic Medical Record experience preferred
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Blue Card within 90 days of hire
