The Law School is searching for an HVAC Maintenance Technician to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the HVAC Maintenance Technician will play a vital role in operating and maintaining HVAC systems at Brooklyn Law School's main building (250 Joralemon Street) and the student residence (205 Street).
In this role, you will not only operate and maintain HVAC systems but also actively engage in optimizing maintenance procedures, collaborating with colleagues, and contributing to the development of preventive maintenance plans.
This is a fully on-site position.
Responsibilities include :
- Conduct maintenance, upkeep, and repair of all HVAC equipment, including PTAC unit.
- Operate, repair, and maintain boilers, chillers, and MEP equipment.
- Perform daily inspections, changing filters, coil cleaning, greasing motors, and replacing light bulbs & ballasts.
- Install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, and cooling units.
- Diagnose and repair of electronic, mechanical, and electrical components of these systems as needed.
- Document all installed equipment upon arrival : make, model, serial number, type of fuel, necessary test measurements, and pictures as necessary.
- Diagnose diverse service issues, obtain any replacement parts, calibrate system to manufacturer's recommendations.
- Responsible for adjustments to the building energy management system.
- Assist with building maintenance functions for special events, snow removal, garbage removal, recycling, and clean up after floods or emergencies as needed and requested by Superintendent and / or Director of Facilities.
- Ability to work independently in a timely manner, ensuring deadlines are consistently met.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and respond quickly to calls and requests from Superintendent and / or Director of Facilities.
- Responsible for preventive maintenance of all building equipment.
Required :
- High School Diploma required.
- EPA 608 Certification or will obtain certification upon hiring
- P98 Certificate of Fitness required or will obtain prior to start date
- A35 Certificate of Fitness required or will obtain prior to start date
- S12 and S13 Certificates of Fitness highly recommended
- Minimum of 3 experiences in related field.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed, and to respond to emergency situations on an "on-call" basis.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and physically demanding tasks with repetition.
- Ability to receive supervision and feedback and adjust performance accordingly.
- Strong organizational, oral, and written skills essential.
- Proficient in basic computer skills and able to use a mobile device throughout the workday.
Preferred :
- Prior experience with energy management systems in large buildings
- Familiarity with safety protocols and regulations in the maintenance field.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Previous experience working in an academic or similar environment.
