The Senior Estimator-Project Manager sells and manages commercial construction projects, including cost estimating and pricing.

He or she builds strong relationships with both new and existing customers, consistently sells and negotiates successful projects, and leads the project team to complete projects in partnership with the General Contractor and in line with the Owner’s vision.

He or she also builds relationships with vendors and other partners and acts as the key contact for escalation of issues.

Honesty, strong communication and organizational skills, a drive for results, a willingness to develop others, and an ability to cultivate a spirit of teamwork are all critical to his or her success.

The Sr. Estimator-Project Manager serves as a subject matter expert within Marek and is recognized by customers for his or her expertise.

Business Development

  • Identifies and pursues target customers and projects in alignment with Marek goals
  • Creates and maintains close, trusting relationships with both current and potential customers, even when there is not an active project
  • Senses and seizes business opportunities which create win-win outcomes for Marek and customer
  • Develops creative solutions to negotiate and add value (value engineering, packaging multiple Marek trades,
  • Influences recommendations, project scope, decision criteria, schedule, etc. on the front end to best position Marek and customer for win-win outcomes
  • Builds and maintains an active presence in the market (through relationships, relevant association involvement, events, seminars, customer events and meetings,

Cost Estimating

  • Effectively assesses and prioritizes opportunities both current and future opportunities to bid; knows and factors in projects on the horizon and knows which ones to bid
  • Reviews plan, drawings, specifications, and schedule visits to the construction site to note geographic features, site access, logistics for material staging, etc.
  • Cultivates intelligence on the market and project, including the competitor landscape, and utilizes to effectively price and compete for business
  • Works closely with potential suppliers, manufacturers and subcontractors on quotes
  • Predicts the effects of key variables on productivity and the bottom line
  • Able to effectively bundle Marek’s products and services for a market advantage
  • Improves accuracy, consistency and speed of take-offs
  • Manages time and abilities to deliver an on-time bid
  • Effectively transfers project knowledge acquired during estimating and bidding phases to production team, including both project manager and field leadership

Project Management

  • Expertly partners with field leaders and customer throughout the pre-job planning process to position the project for maximum success
  • Engages with Marek project team in strategic pre-con meeting (or series of pre-con meetings) to plan work, identify and resolve potential scope, schedule, sequence, contract, budget, material staging or manpower issues, and develop appropriate cost code structure;

expert facilitator of pre-cons

  • Develops and gains agreement from customer on a schedule of values which ensures project is funded appropriately and pre-empts risky cost questions at the end of the job
  • Proactively identifies opportunities in scheduling and sequencing to drive down costs while delivering quality work
  • Is regularly present on the job to support Marek field team and effectively navigate safety, cost and quality-impact issues with the GC
  • Confronts customer with issues affecting safety, cost, production or quality, offering solutions leading to a positive resolution
  • Effectively documents customer agreements through the RFI and / or change order process

Job Requirements

Education

  • High School Diploma / GED with equivalent work experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or related field of study a plus

Experience

  • Experience in Fabric Panel with 5+ years of experience in commercial construction industry selling, estimating and managing projects, preferably in general contracting and interiors.
  • Proven track record developing new customers and selling projects to both new and existing customers, field experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience using various estimating, scheduling, and / or project management technology (Quick Bid, On-Screen Take-Off, project management and blueprint collaboration software such as BlueBeam, PlanGrid,
