Patient Services Specialist - Diversity & Community Health

Responsibilities :

  • Schedules transportation services through rideshare platforms such as Kaizen, Roundtrip, Uber, Lyft, etc. to arrange pick up and drop offs.
  • Verifies transportation benefits for patients, educates patients regarding non-emergency transportation options, and facilitates enrolling them into transportation coverage.
  • Researches, compiles and enters data for insurance reimbursement, rideshare costs, and volumes.
  • Helps mitigate complications that arise from transportation issues.
  • Provides excellent customer service in a timely, professional, and respectful manner.
  • Receives, records, and responds to feedback from patients and communicates back to transportation providers.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by leadership.
  • Schedules and reschedules appointments to coincide with patient transportation needs.
  • Within UI Health’s work queues, documents and manages tasks, closing them upon completion.
  • Performs basic insurance verification and pre-authorization for transportation services.
  • Escorts patients to their transportation as necessary.
  • Monitors expirations of authorizations and initiates requests for extensions.
  • Stays up to date as policies, regulations, and payor requirements change.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required :

Any one or combination totaling three (3) years (36 months) from the categories below :

A. Coursework in business, finance, public administration, social sciences, or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent :

30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months) Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months) 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months) Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)

B. Progressively responsible work experience in patient services work (such as admissions, billing, collection, and / or interviewing) in a hospital.
