Position Summary and Qualifications :

The Department of Educational Leadership, Counseling, and Social Work at Saint Joseph’s University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Practice Healthcare Education position to begin in August 2024.

This is a 9- month full-time non-tenure track faculty position with the possibility of a secondary appointment as Director of the Interdisciplinary Doctor of Education Program for Educational Leaders (IDEPEL), which includes a concentration in healthcare education.

This secondary appointment carries expectations for summer availability. A successful candidate will be able to instruct courses on innovative and inclusive pedagogy for healthcare educators.

The interest is in teaching doctoral candidates how to teach healthcare topics, rather than a primary focus on healthcare content.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Educator with a healthcare expertise professional and / or educational leadership in different settings and contexts, including low-income communities and communities of color, and pursues scholarly interests on issues of equity and healthcare education, inclusive practice and pedagogy.
  • Requires teaching 4 courses each semester (8 courses total taught in fall and spring).
  • Capacity for effective teaching strategies, in both traditional and technology mediated learning environments is expected.
  • Duties for this position include service to the department, helping with marketing and recruitment at the graduate level, representing the department / program in professional forums, student advising, and chairing dissertation committees.

  • Knowledge and experience in higher education pedagogy and instructional practices

Secondary Duties & Responsibilities

  • The secondary appointment as program director for IDEPEL provides two course reductions per year and a stipend.
  • Experience in Healthcare Education understanding the changing nature of healthcare education and administration.
  • Opportunities for summer teaching and summer research grants are available.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • A doctoral degree in educational leadership / administration (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) with study interested in healthcare administration, community health, allied health, or related field;
  • Minimum of 3 years leadership experience (preferably in healthcare education) professional / administrative setting;
  • Evidence of capacity to successfully teach graduate and / or doctoral courses and supervise dissertations, preferably in healthcare education and leadership;
  • Evidence of capacity to successfully teach courses in person, online and / or HyFlex.
  • A demonstrated interest in diversity, equity, and inclusion work, and the ability to support the social justice mission of Saint Joseph’s University

Preferred

  • Experience working in or research pertaining to healthcare communities with diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access and opportunity for underrepresented individuals in healthcare settings;
  • Participation in community-based initiatives / grants serving low-income and / or minoritized communities;
  • Experience with dissertation committees;
  • A potential for publication and scholarly work in the relevant field such as educational leadership and administration;
  • Understanding / knowledge of the impact of federal, state and local policies in healthcare, research-based initiatives, quantitative and qualitative research methods, and policy analysis are highly desired;
  • Evidence of ability to work collaboratively with local healthcare and educational partners;
  • Active leadership in local, state, national and / or international professional organizations;
  • Possess skills in information and communication technologies including online formats of curriculum design and delivery;
  • A demonstrated commitment to preparing both scholars and practicing educational leaders.
