The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director of Recruitment and HR Compliance, the Director of Talent Management will serve as a hands-on, mission-driven, strategic partner for schools and departments throughout Columbia University.

The Director will excel in communication, relationship management, and networking skills and utilize data-driven metrics and analytics to enhance recruitment processes.

This role requires interacting comfortably with a wide range of constituents and establishing rapport with employees at all levels.

The Director will act as a team and consensus builder, advocating for recruitment initiatives and spearheading efforts to identify and retain top talent.

The incumbent will provide regular feedback, guidance, and professional development opportunities to one direct report.

Responsibilities

Recruitment Strategy :

  • Develop and execute progressive integrated recruitment solutions using multiple vehicles, including direct sourcing, social networking, industry networking, employee referrals, Internet sourcing, job fairs, and targeted advertising.
  • Oversee the design and continuous improvement of TalentLink, the University’s applicant tracking system (ATS), and its various modules, to ensure a streamlined and efficient hiring process and elevate the applicant experience.

Manage the ATS vendor relationship and oversee implementations, system enhancements, and updates.

  • Create a consulting model to help clients use technology effectively for talent acquisition and management.
  • Build solid and credible relationships with senior leaders, hiring managers, critical stakeholders, and partners, operating as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert.
  • Serve as the in-house recruiter for Central Human Resources by effectively sourcing, recruiting, and interviewing best-in-class candidates for administrative staff positions.
  • Ensure recruitment practices align with the University’s Diversity and inclusion policies, programs, and talent management initiatives.

Partner with EOAA to develop and support workforce diversity initiatives.

Candidate Engagement and Experience :

  • Devise strategies to engage external applicants and create a positive candidate experience throughout the recruitment process.
  • Grow in-house search services to support executive searches and recruit for hard-to-fill roles.
  • Partner with local HR and hiring managers to develop professional position specifications, evaluate candidate potential, and provide hiring advice as needed.
  • Plan and implement a social media presence that compliments current university platforms. Co-manage the University’s yearly Career Fair event and attend recruiting and diversity events as appropriate.

Recruitment Metrics and KPIs :

  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of recruitment processes and strategies.
  • Analyze data and trends to improve recruitment strategies and practices continuously.
  • Introduce innovative recruiting strategies and sourcing initiatives to deliver continuous improvement in recruitment and selection activities for the organization.

Performance Management :

  • Leverage professional expertise to develop, and implement a comprehensive talent review framework aimed at building a robust internal pipeline of high-potential talent.
  • Oversee the performance management process, including kicking off and managing year-end performance reviews.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required and a minimum of 5-7 years related experience.

Position Specific Qualifications :

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in recruiting.
  • Must be a results and goal-oriented individual with the stability, persistence, and patience necessary to work effectively with various high-functioning internal and external constituents.
  • Excellent problem-solving and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with tracking recruitment data and using analytics to make recommendations for change.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A master's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of quality improvement, change management, and strategic planning.
