Job Description
Hearst Technology Services is seeking an individual who will help our organization achieve its technology vision. We are hiring a Director, Technical Data Engineering who will work with teams in a fast-paced technology organization.
As a director, you will be responsible for providing direction to Data Engineers as well as performing hands on work in the full development life cycle of complex data projects requiring integrations and transformations including analysis, design, development, and support of complex data pipelines in cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direction for the development and execution of technology and processes in support of the Hearst Enterprise Data Management program workstreams in conjunction with existing Hearst technical policies and procedures.
- Direct a team of data engineers in building integrations and transformations including analysis, design, development, and support of complex data pipelines in the cloud, working collaboratively with Business Data Teams.
- Provide overall direction to teams of data engineers implementing a cloud-based modern data stack that meets strict security, privacy, and quality assurance requirements.
- Direct the implementation of the technical strategy concerning the facilitation of Data Domains, Data Quality, Metadata, and Master Data including the resulting technical stack.
- Provide direction for the implementation and enhancement of a cloud-based data platform comprised of authoritative, high quality Hearst shared data.
- Provide technical direction to data engineers for the implementation of data governance and stewardship strategies.
- Support the Hearst businesses in the technical build of centralized data assets that enable Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to gain additional insights.
- Collaborate with external organizations to mature the technical architecture of the data management program.
- Provide direction to data engineers for the monitoring and measurement of performance and success metrics.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in CS or related field. Masters preferred.
- 7+ years in managing a team of data engineers delivering successful data management strategies in the cloud.
- 10+ years of experience as a data engineer or related discipline
- Experience in implementing cloud-based data repositories adhering to data quality, security, privacy, and governance standards.
- Proficiency with a wide spectrum of cloud-based Databases, Data Warehouses and Data Lake technologies.

The reasonable estimate, if hired in New York State, is $170,000-$200,000. Please note this information is specific to those hired in New York State.
If this role is open to candidates outside of New York State, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location.
A final decision on the successful candidate's starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.
