OVERVIEW :
Under the direction of the Senior Director of People Operations, this position will oversee Year Up’s employee relations function while maintaining a proactive and positive work environment that is consistent, fair, and inclusive.
The Director will assist with developing employee relations strategy while advising and educating on complex employee relations issues including workplace investigations and employment-related workshops, with the goal of enhancing employee experience.
The Director will also be responsible for HR compliance and policy management including the identification, development, and revision of policies and mandatory trainings.
This includes acting as a resource for policy interpretation and a champion for implementing new and / or updated state-specific and federal employment laws.
Additionally, this individual will help lead the newly formed HR Policy Committee and assist with Year Up’s monthly Ethics Committee report out.
The Director will supervise the Leave Program Manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Employee Relations
- The Director will act as a subject matter expert; revise and maintain employee relations processes and procedures; develop new policies, processes and procedures as needed.
- Assist with developing organizational Employee Relations strategies that create consistency and a more streamlined philosophy and approach for addressing workplace matters.
- May conduct investigations of complex employment including preparing comprehensive investigative reports and recommendations for resolution.
- Oversee, maintain, and enhance ER case management system (HR Acuity) to support the HR organization’s growing need to standardize processes and utilize metrics to inform and support our people strategy.
- Develop key metrics and conduct ongoing analysis of employee relations data; identify trends and determine levels of staff engagement and satisfaction to create and develop programs and initiatives that will support strategic efforts to create a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Supervise the Leave Program Manager, overseeing the reasonable accommodations process, and collaborating with the appropriate key stakeholders (i.
e. HR Business Partners, Managers, our leave administration vendor and Legal).
Policy & Compliance Management
- Identify, develop and work with Sr. Director to create a plan to build and sustain HR policy and compliance areas.
- Provide consultation, education and training on policy interpretation, administration, and workplace issues.
- Act as the content expert for HR Policies and Procedures; manage policy updates and lead HR policy review committee.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and facilitate workplace trainings (i.e. Prevention of Workplace Harassment , what you need to know about ADA / FMLA , Corrective Action and Performance Management etc.).
- Manage HR compliance line reporting in partnership with the HR Business Partners and Compliance team as needed.
- Participation in Year Up’s Learning Community is expected.
- Perform other duties as required.
The location for this role is flexible and is open to candidates in any city where Year Up operates ( ).
Salary Range : $125,000-$150,000
QUALIFICATIONS :
Minimum of 7 years of demonstrated success as an HR professional inclusive of Employee Relations, HR Business Partner, or Generalist experience.
HR certification(s), or equivalent business education preferred. Previous experience working with a national workforce in non-profit, higher education or similar organizations is highly desired.
Supervisory experience is a plus.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated success when guiding and advising people leaders on employee relations issues.
- Demonstrated knowledge or understanding of policy development and compliance management practices.
- Flexible, collaborative team player with exceptional customer service skills and the ability to handle complex, confidential matters discreetly and professionally.
- Solid HR business acumen including knowledge of theories, principals and best practices of HR management, and a thorough knowledge of federal and state employment laws is essential.
- Knowledge of leave of absence function and navigating the reasonable accommodation process.
- Excellent judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Well organized, self-directed, and able to plan and prioritize multiple work demands.
- Proficient with computer programs (Excel, Power Point, PeopleSoft, data base systems) are required to create and run reports, compile, and analyze data, and generate graphs, tables, and charts to present data and support recommendations.
