About The Position
Job Title : CST / ORT - Surgery Technician Job Specialty : Operating Room Job Duration : 13 weeks Shift : 08 : 00-17 : 00 Guaranteed Hours : Experience : 1 year minimum;
2 or more years preferred License : LVN / LPN License required Certifications : BLS required; Certification of Surgical Technologist from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting within 180 days of graduation Must-Have : Proficiency in scrub techniques for three specialty areas, including but not limited to Transplants, Open Heart, Urology, Neurology, Titanium Rib, Robotics, etc.
Job Description : Perform a variety of technical duties to assist in preparing and caring for pre-operative patients.- Prepare patient skin for surgery in accordance with hospital standards.
- Maintain aseptic techniques; actively monitor potential breaches in aseptic technique.- Provide comfort and support for pre-operative patients while respecting their privacy.
- Transport patients to and from the Operating Room suite and position them according to the type of surgery.- Identify and care for biological specimens appropriately.
- Prepare the Operating Room by setting up tables, instruments, and supplies tailored to the specific case.- Meet expectations of applicable competencies.
- Perform all processes related to the delivery of direct patient care and assistance care in the OR under the guidance of a professional nurse.
- Establish and maintain the sterile field; pass instruments and sutures to the physician as directed.- Use the physician preference card as a starting point when pulling cases and setting up the OR;
ensure preference cards are current and comprehensive.- Function effectively as a team member in patient care.- Cooperate in team planning and execution.
- Maintain a safe environment by consistently implementing technical and aseptic practices.- Demonstrate clinical expertise in the use and care of all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
- Adhere to Universal Barrier Precautions for patient and personal safety.- Demonstrate competency to monitor and control the surgical environment, including proper traffic control and adherence to OR sanitation policies and procedures.
- Familiarize with facility policy and procedure regarding decontamination, processing, and sterilization of instruments and supplies.
- Show competence in performing assigned patient care responsibilities to address the population-specific and developmental needs of patients.
- Appropriately adapt patient assessment, treatment, and care methods to accommodate each patient's unique needs.- Perform other duties as assigned.
