Position Summary :
As Shipboard Electrician, you will provide maintenance and technical support of Navy shipboard habitability related electrical systems and components as a subject matter expert.
Clearance Required :
Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain / maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities :
- Provide technical guidance and instruction to ships' force to enhance their self-sustainability to diagnose problems.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on shipboard habitability systems and equipment.
- Conduct ship-checks to assist in determining scope of work required in accordance with applicable NAVSEA drawings and other technical reference documents.
- Assess, troubleshoot, and assist ships' force in the performance of minor repairs, adjustments, and testing on shipboard habitability systems and equipment.
Shipboard habitability systems and equipment include :
- Galley and food service equipment
- Food service refrigeration equipment
- Food preparation equipment
- Food service dishwashers and garbage grinders
- Aqueous potassium carbonate (APC) fire-fighting system
- Gaylord system
- Laundry equipment
- Fan coil units / assemblies
- Use the following equipment in the shop and shipboard to accomplish requirements : multi-meters, clamp meters, electrical circuit tracers, electrical meggers, vacuum pumps, refrigerant recovery unit, refrigerant leak detectors, refrigerant scales, gauge manifolds, hydrostatic test rig, and electrical, pneumatic, and hand tools.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience :
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Drivers License
- At least 6 years' experience as a shipboard electrician, preferably in the US Navy
- Experience with shipboard Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)
- Experience with Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM), Naval Ships Technical Manual (NSTM's), Military standards, Test memos, Test Standards, Drawings and Technical Manuals
- Maritime Industry (OSHA Code of Federal Regulations 29 CFR 1915) Course 7615 within 6 months
Physical Demands and Expectations :
- Ability to speak, read, hear and write, with or without assistance.
- Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment.
- Requires walking, reaching, sitting and concentration in the presence of occasional noise.
- Ability to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up / down steep and narrow ladders or stairways onboard ship.
- Ability to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs. in weight.
- Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
- Noise conditions range from very quiet to loud noise.
