Product Steward Chemist
Kelly Outsourcing Consulting Group Kelly OCG, a managed solution provider and business unit of Kelly Services, Inc., is currently seeking a Product Steward Chemist for a long-term engagement at one of our Global medical device clients in Jacksonville, FL.
This role is a part-time position.
Monday through Friday : Flexible hours, 20hrs / week, 1-2days onsite
Compensation is $45-55 / hr
Summary :
A Product Steward Chemist is responsible for the stewardship of chemical products from development through commercialization and beyond.
This role involves ensuring that all products comply with applicable regulatory standards, and providing technical support related to product compliance.
Responsibilities :
- Regulatory Compliance : Ensure all products meet local, national, and international regulatory requirements.
- Documentation : Review supplier declarations regarding their compliance with REACH and global REACH-like legislation, California Proposition 65 and other similar global chemical control and / or disclosure laws and regulations.
- Product Development Support : Collaborate with R&D and Material Supplier Engineering teams to ensure new products comply with regulatory standards from conception to launch.
- Environmental Stewardship : Implement and manage programs to minimize the environmental impact of products and support environmentally preferred purchasing and tender requests.
- Risk Assessment : Conduct and document risk assessments for products, ingredients, and processes.
- Customer and Internal Stakeholder Support : Provide technical support to customers and internal stakeholders regarding compliance and regulatory issues.
Communicate key regulatory risks to Value Stream Leaders on a regular basis; and represent product stewardship interests at the Raw Materials Specification Committee.
Continuous Improvement : Stay updated on regulatory changes and implement practices to ensure ongoing compliance.
Qualifications
- Education : Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience : 5+ years of experience in product stewardship, regulatory affairs, or a related field + BS / MS; or 3+ years of the same experience for candidates with PhD.
- Knowledge : Strong understanding of global chemical control laws / regulations (e.g., REACH, TSCA), and disclosure requirements (e.
g., California Proposition 65); strong understanding of organic chemistry and polymers (nomenclature, synthetic routes) as well as basic chemistry principles (physical and chemical properties, unit conversions, etc.).
- Skills : Excellent analytical, organizational, communication and reading comprehension skills; proficiency with MS Office suite.

- Working Conditions
- Office-based, but may occasionally need to enter, R&D, manufacturing and formulation areas onsite.
