Primary Purpose :

To maintain a record system of Limited English Proficiency (LEP) students; keep data information in such a manner that records can easily be located regarding LEP student testing, placement and monitoring.

Qualifications :

Education / Certification :

• High school diploma or GED
• Qualify for appropriate state paraprofessional certification

Special Knowledge / Skills :

• Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
• Interest and proficiency in reading and math
• Demonstrate an interest in education
• Ability to communicate effectively

Major Responsibilities and Duties :

Program Management

• Assist in carrying out the district's goal of improving student achievement by providing assistance to students who are at-risk of academic failure or dropping out of school and / or staff who work with these students.
• Assist teachers in providing instruction to students in the classroom.
• Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
• Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date files related to testing, placement and monitoring Emergent Bilingual students (LPAC notebook).
• Enter Emergent Bilingual input of student records to computer and reporting and makes corrections to the student's Emergent Bilingual data file.
• Prepare agendas for each monthly meeting of the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee.
• Administer and score oral language proficiency tests and achievement test.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.

Student Management

• Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
• Make teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.

Other

• Maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
• Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
• Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Instructional Paraprofessional Personnel.

Tools / Equipment Used : Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

Posture : Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling / squatting, bending / stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting

Motion : Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head

Lifting : Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)

Environment : May work prolonged or irregular hours; possible district wide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors

Mental Demands : Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

Salary Range Min-$22,224 Mid-$26,280 Max-$ 30,337 (Based on previous experience)

2023-2024 Salary Schedule

2024-2025 Salary Schedule is pending school board approval

Salary is based on working 187 days. If working less than 187 days, Salary will be less.
