Per diem, days (Relief Coverage)
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
- See patients on multiple patient care units including surgery, organ transplant, oncology and bone marrow transplant, general medicine, and ICU and requires an in depth understanding of the role of nutrition in critical care
- Expertise in alternative feeding modalities such as TPN and Tube feeding; and maintaining current knowledge of best practices in critical care nutrition.
- Responsible for providing patient education; facilitating communication between other members of the Food Service Department and healthcare teams

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design evidence-based nutrition care plans for high acuity inpatient oncology population based on nutrition diagnosis and as outlined by departmental standards of care protocols and policies.
- Provide ongoing evaluation and monitoring of patients by documenting their progression toward meeting prescribed goals in the electronic medical record and by communicating with other members of the healthcare team
- Provide recommendations for nutrition support. This includes appropriate recommendations for diet prescriptions as well as for tube feeding and TPN.
- Provide effective nutrition education to patients and their care providers that takes into consideration their learning abilities, readiness to learn, and cultural beliefs.
- Actively participate in patient care conferences, medical rounds, and other interdisciplinary care and process improvement teams.
- Collaborate with dietitians working in the outpatient setting for both UWMC and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.
- Maintain current clinical knowledge of best practices for nutrition and actively participate in the process of developing and reevaluating standards of care protocols.
REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's degree involving major study in food and nutrition or dietetics
AND Registration as a Dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics within three (3) months of hire AND Washington State Dietitian Certification within six (6) months of hire.
Equivalent education / experience will substitute for all qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license / certification / registration
