Job Opportunity :

BHSI has an exciting opportunity for an Actuary to join our Global Actuarial Team in our Boston, Atlanta, or Chicago offices.

We are looking for an individual who has both an ability to excel and an excellence of character. Our culture is innovative and fast-paced, and this position will be the perfect fit for an individual who is intellectually curious, self-motivated and a collaborative team member.

Casualty is a diverse, heterogenous product line that spans virtually every industry in the globe. Over the past ten years, the BHSI Actuarial team has created many models and processes to analyze the business, however there will always be opportunities for deeper analysis.

As part of the North American Casualty Team in this newly created position, this teammate will take ownership of specific areas of the business and have the freedom to design new analyses or implement improvements.

Depending on the teammate’s skills, this could encompass pricing models, portfolio analyses, and database management. Additionally, the Actuary will assist the team in pricing individual large accounts, working closely with Underwriting and Claims.

This teammate will have frequent communication with the entire Casualty underwriting team as well as actuaries around the globe and be a significant asset to the overall Team.

Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Deeply analyze specific areas of the Casualty business and create new processes for pricing or efficiency gains.
  • Price individual, large casualty accounts, working closely with underwriting throughout the process.
  • Develop and maintain quantitative rating and diagnostic tools to be used by underwriters in pricing individual risks and managing portfolios of business.
  • Analyze external claims and exposure data to enhance proprietary pricing factors and models.
  • Assess profitability of Casualty portfolio by creating new tools and methods of analysis.
  • Research new pricing techniques and enhance existing methods.
  • Collaborate with other departments (IT, Claims, Underwriting) in the development of actuarial systems and data as the company continues to grow and evolve.
  • Collaborate with offshore resources to improve business processes and increase efficiency.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience :

  • FCAS or near-FCAS
  • 7+ years of experience in an actuarial role, preferably in commercial casualty or healthcare insurance.
  • Able to function as an independent, efficient individual contributor. This role will not initially involve management opportunities, but it may over time evolve to supervising 1 to 2 actuarial analysts.
  • Proficiency in SQL, R and VBA strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Strong desire to learn from and share knowledge with teammates.
  • Effective time management, with the ability to juggle multiple projects at the same time.

BHSI Offers :

  • A competitive package and exciting growth opportunities for career-oriented teammates
  • A dynamic, action oriented, and thoughtful environment centered on always doing the right thing for our customers, teammates and our other stakeholders
  • A purposely non-bureaucratic organization that embraces simplicity over complexity and emphasizes individual excellence in a team framework

NOTE : Compensation will be commensurate with experience. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Team Member may perform other related duties as negotiated to meet the ongoing needs of the organization
