Job Overview :
Under the direction of an attending surgeon and performs duties in relation to pre-operative, operative and post operative procedures as assigned by that attending surgeon in both the CVOR and Main OR.
Job Requirements :
Graduate of an approved technical, professional, or vocational program in Allied Health
Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree
Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS)
Certification as on of the following : Surgical Assistant (SA-C), Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA), Physician Assistant Certified (PA-C), Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA), Certified Registerd Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA)
Broad base of experience in various surgical procedures, Extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology
Excellent hand / eye coordination
Demonstrated proficiency in endoscopic vein harvensting, robotics within 6 months of hire
4-5 years experience Clinical Allied Health Related field
1-2 years experience Clinical Specialty in Cardiovascular and / or thoracic service
Job Responsibilities :
Assists in caring for patients by participating fully in a call schedule and covering cases as necessary, over and above scheduled call hours and is divided equitably amongst the peer groups, and includes LVAD and CABG cases.
Provides first assistance in surgery including handling tissue, providing exposure, harvensting vascular grafts, using instruments, suturing, and providing hemostasis.
Operaties equipment and instrumentation with supervision.
Operates equipment and instrumentation with supervision and harvests vascular grafts with proficiency in both op;en and endovascular techniques.
Maintains proficiiency in the current technical approaches in cardiovascular, thoracic, robotic and other surgcial specialties - including minimally invasive, endoscopic, robotic and main OR surgical procedures.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of instruments and equipment.
Maintains a safe environment for patients, self and teammates.
