This position's main goal is to stock items in its assigned department and provide prompt friendly customer service. This position reports to the Store Manager, and Department Manager.
This position should not exceed 40 hours each week. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
Primary Responsibilities
- Know and follow store policies and procedures.
- Be a mature and productive team member.
- Relate and interact with co-workers in a harmonious and respectful manner.
- Follow the work schedule assigned by the manager.
- Keep the store safe for customers and staff.
- Answer and route phone calls, take messages as needed.
- Perform tasks assigned by the store manager and department manager.
- Alert PIC or store manager to potential shoplifters, disorderly customers, safety concerns, equipment problems or other emergencies, in a timely manner.
- Attend department and all-staff meetings.
- Assist in shadow training new hires in department duties and procedures when requested.
Stocking Responsibilities
- Stock shelves and end caps fully, and face items on shelves. Move back stock to shelves when possible.
- Rotate older stock to front, making space for new stock and following department procedures.
- Pull short-date or low-quality items and follow established procedures for recording and discounting them or disposing of them.
- Label items accurately with price tags or signs. Report price discrepancies to Department Managers or department managers.
- Receive and stock local orders and larger weekly deliveries, following established procedures.
- Assist Department Managers with receiving deliveries as requested.
- Maintain established organization of products on the shelves as defined by the shelf tags.
Store Maintenance
- Keep shelves, coolers, counters, and bins in clean, orderly condition. Clean up spills and messes as needed.
- Keep bathrooms clean and well stocked.
- Remove trash promptly, do recycling, sweep, and mop floor.
- Keep department equipment in assigned area, clean and in working order.
- Use equipment safely, monitor cooler and freezer temperatures.
- Advise PIC of equipment problems.
Customer Service
- Provide excellent customer service at all opportunities.
- Greet customers, smile and make eye contact.
- Offer suggestions for purchases and ways to prepare products.
- Relate and interact with customers in a harmonious and respectful manner.
- Pass on customer requests and feedback to appropriate person.
- When asked where a product is located, take the customer to the location or ask another staff person to assist the customer.
- Be familiar with product knowledge in order to answer customer questions. Refer unresolved questions or problems to appropriate staff.
- Help customers place special orders.
Additional Responsibilities
Cashier Responsibilities
- Check out customer purchases quickly and accurately, using correct prices, PLU's and departments.
- Call for back-up as needed so customers are checked out quickly.
- Follow the procedures for cashiering as described in our cashiering policies and procedures manual.
- Bag customer purchases as needed and ask customer if they need assistance. For those needing assistance, carry out groceries or call for assistance as needed.
Follow the bagging SOP.
- Encourage customers to sign up for Rainbow Rewards if they are not already on it.
- Price and stock items, organize, clean, or do items on 'to dos list' that are appropriate for a cashier to do when there are no customers to be checked out.
- Maintain checking area in clean, orderly condition.
- Handle returns from customers. Ensure returned items are properly disposed of and recorded or routed to the correct person.
Cash Handling
- Set up the cash drawers in the morning, following our procedures.
- Close and balance the cash drawers accurately at the end of your shift, following our procedures.
- Get change from the safe to replenish the cash register drawers.
- Recount deposit, correct daily cash flow paperwork as needed, fill out routing paperwork, and put deposit in the safe.
- Make safe deposits, fill out paperwork and get / act as a witness as needed.
This list of job responsibilities is considered a general outline of the position. This position is expected to do whatever it takes to get the job done to ensure the successful operation of the store and of Rainbow Blossom.
This position will require you to be able to lift up to 20 pounds often and 50 pounds rarely. This position will mostly be indoors in a climate-controlled environment, with occasional outdoor exposure, which could consist of hot and cold temperatures as well as potential exposure to wind and precipitation.
This position will be expected to stand, walk, bend, twist, and pack bags often; to squat or kneel occasionally; and to climb rarely.
