PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :
Be informed and aware of medical conditions that may affect a student’s health, safety
or performance. Be trained and ready to respond if problems arise.
Work co-actively with students to teach self-help skills. Be prepared to assist with
teaching students to dress, feed and bathe themselves.
- Disinfect and clean toys, equipment and other items in classroom.
- Assist students with daily classroom assignments; set up, operate, and put away
instructional materials, instructional equipment, adaptive equipment and assist with
the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
Assist and supervise students in the library, art, music, physical education, lunch
periods, assemblies, recreation / play periods, and field trips.
- Responsible for class management when the teacher is unavailable or out of the room.
- Supervise students before and after school, before and after class, escort and / or transport students, including students who use wheelchairs or other assistive devices from buses to rooms and from rooms to buses.
- Provide personal care services including, but not limited to, tube feeding, suctioning,
tracheotomy care, catheterization, feeding, positioning, hygiene, handling medical or
physical emergencies, and assisting with toileting. Assistance with toileting may be
required for students through 21 years of age and includes, but is not limited to,
accompanying students to and from the restroom, removing clothing, lifting onto, securing
on and lifting off toilets, cleaning and redressing; caring for intimate feminine hygiene,
changing diapers and bathing and cleaning potties .
Gather dirty laundry and dishes, loading machines, running machines, folding clean laundry,
putting away clean laundry and dishes, and some hand washing of laundry and dishes.
Obtain food from cafeteria, preparing trays, positioning students, feeding students or
assisting the students in feeding themselves, scraping trays, cleaning tables and floors.
Chart students’ daily activities, record keeping, keeping attendance, keeping bulletin
board and other classroom learning displays and decorations up to date, typing and filing.
Attend staff meetings, sew, repair, upholster, adjust, construct, assemble, etc. adaptive
devices and other equipment; plan and decorate for parties and special events; and ASSIST
WHEREVER THERE MAY BE A NEED.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Nine months basis.
EVALUATION : Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in
accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy of
Evaluation of Support Personnel.
