Summary :

The position supports the school with the facilitation of library, information literacy, and media literacy instruction in grades K-8 and manages school library services, spaces, and collections.

This position works in close collaboration with grade-level teachers and the Director of Library Media Center to provide lessons in literature appreciation, information literacy instruction, and media literacy instruction with project-based learning in the middle school classroom.

Responsibilities :

  • Support the Director of Library Media Center on programming, budgeting, cataloging, and database management.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Innovation and Technology on media literacy and interdisciplinary projects.
  • Collaborate with the Director of the Library Media Center on the scope and sequence following AASL standards for the library program.
  • Collaborate with faculty to implement the scope and sequence.
  • Support the Director of the Library Media Center with K-5 library classes.
  • Provide Book Talks to students and faculty.
  • Partner with the Director of Innovation and Technology and the Director of Library Media Center to plan, teach, and evaluate library instruction.
  • Gathering, analysis, evaluation of information, and presentation.
  • Assist students as needed with research projects, helping them to locate and use appropriate resources.
  • Liaise with faculty and staff members to identify opportunities to integrate information and media literacy skills with classroom curriculum and projects.
  • Counsel with and provide individualized reading recommendations for students and their families.
  • Train and support Parent Guardian Association library volunteers on library circulation, in partnership with the Director of the Library Media Center
  • Promote and facilitate the use of high-quality print and digital learning resources
  • Remain current with publishing trends and best practices in school librarianship, specifically School Library Journal, Kirkus Review, and Knowledge Quest.
  • View curriculum as well as classroom and School culture through a lens focused on the mission and policies of the school.
  • Conduct an annual inventory in conjunction with the library team.
  • Catalog and process books.
  • Assisting in circulation desk duties.
  • Check-in and reshelve returned materials in the correct order.
  • Promotes a welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe work environment.
  • Attend weekly division, department, or full faculty meetings.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements :

Required Qualifications and Skills :

  • Library experience required
  • Current with Children and Young Adult Literature
  • A demonstrated love of literature
  • Knowledge of Follett Destiny is preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Flexible thinker with the ability to multitask
  • Energetic, collaborative, and flexible
  • Knowledge of Google Suite
  • Master of Library and Information Science is preferred

Working Conditions :

  • 80% Indoors, 20% outdoors
  • Ability to move around the school and playground to attend to individual operational and other matters
  • Occasional requirement to lift more than 30 lbs
  • Sit for an extended amount of time
