Job Description
Under minimal supervision, provides nursing care for a group of patients assigned to the nurse based on matching the patients’ needs
with the nurse’ competencies. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other
related duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM EDUCATION : Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
PREFERRED EDUCATION : Bachelors Degree
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE : None
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE : Two years in acute care. Previous clinical nursing experience.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSURE : Possession of current Texas State License for Registered Nurse
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSURE :
REQUIRED COURSES / COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR) :
BLS required - ALL Obtained through approved American Heart Association Training Center or the Military Training Network.
ACLS required L&D within 6 months of date of hire or transfer date into unit
NRP required for L&D within 6 months of date of hire or transfer date into unit. Any other nurse who may float to L&D and attend
deliveries should also have NRP
Fetal Monitoring - L&D and Antepartum : Novice RNs are required to complete GNOSIS introduction to Fetal Heart Monitoring with 30
days from hire date or transfer date into unit and AWHONN Intermediate Heart Monitoring with 8 months of L&D Orientation.
Experienced L&D RNs (>
1 yr experience) must have AWHONN Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring on hire or within the first 90 days of hire,
S.T.A.B.L.E. Level 2 Nursery-Must provide proof of prior completion or obtain within 6 months of hire or transfer date into unit
Renewal is not required).
PALS required for Pediatrics within 6 months of date of hire or transfer date into unit
