Lorain County Public Health is seeking to hire a Registered Nurse to function as a public health nurse. Primary duties will be within a school setting during an academic school year.
The RN will function within the scope of nursing under the direction of the School Nurse Supervisor.
JOB DUTIES
- Work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team to coordinate the delivery of school health services to staff and students within a school district.
- Collaborate with physicians, parents, and school staff to develop plans of care for students with chronic disease and special needs.
- Ensure compliance with immunization requirements and reporting.
- Perform required screening and referrals and assist families with services and resources.
- Delegation and training of unlicensed school personnel.
- Collect school health data to use for evaluation and planning. Identify health issues that need to be addressed and contribute to the improvement of policies, programs, and services.
- Promote wellness initiatives that improve health and school performance.
- Other Public Health nurse duties as assigned
MAJOR WORK CHARACTERISTICS
Demonstrate knowledge of child and adolescent health issues, growth, and development, and social-emotional needs. Demonstrate competency in providing care to ill or injured children and children with medical needs.
Must be able to provide culturally appropriate and compassionate care.
Must be able to perform duties in a fast-paced school clinic setting, follow physician's orders, and nursing care plans. Able to work independently and as a team player.
Must be able to prioritize activities and needs, follow timelines and meet work deadlines. Must have clear and professional oral and written communication skills.
Competent in computer skills including word, email, and electronic health records. May require minimal travel.
MINIMUM CLASS REQUIREMENT (including license, if any)
Must hold a current RN license in the State of Ohio. Be in possession of a valid driver's license for the State of Ohio with reliable transportation and proof of auto insurance.
Must have proof of and maintain up-to-date vaccinations for healthcare providers or be in the process of completing. Must be able to wear PPE, including a face mask and face shield, when required.
CURRENT WORK ASSIGNMENT : This is a part-time position of up to 24 hours a week. This is a part-time role of up to 24 hours per week.
The current assignment mainly focuses on the Keystone School District, but may also involve time at any of the school districts we serve.
Start and end times may fluctuate based on assignment needs but typically fall between 8 : 00 am and 4 : 00 pm.
Work schedule may flex with short notice to accommodate needs in the school or the Health Department. Hours may include weekends and evenings as needed.
COMPENSATION : Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance. Ohio Public Employee's Retirement System (PERS). Paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave.
Tuition reimbursement is available.
Hourly Rate : $ 29.46 - 37.59
