The primary role of the Dispatcher is to provide timely, efficient and courteous coordination of driver services, managerial / supervisory requests and customer care.
Dispatcher with Trash / Transportation experienced preferred : Scheduled to work M-F 5am - 3pm
Essential Responsibilities
1. Via multi-line radio, dispatch drivers to service requests while considering various routing factors in order to optimize efficiency and minimize cost.
2. Facilitate communication between customers, customer service, supervisors and other departments to coordinate services and routing.
3. Anticipate and troubleshoot potential delivery and service issues to mitigate disruptions in service.
4. Perform data entry, maintain accurate customer records and prepare various reports upon request paying close attention to accuracy and detail.
5. Monitor (via Nextraq) and communicate driving conditions to ensure timely service.
6. Consistently evaluate route efficiency and recommend changes to increase productivity.
7. Report mechanical issues and downed trucks to maintenance for road-side and in-bay repairs.
8. Maintain a working knowledge of company and industry products and services.
9. Participate in Department and Company-wide trainings to increase skill sets and improve service.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Superior customer service-related techniques and radio / telephone etiquette.
- Modern office practices and procedures including the use of standard computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Search Engines and GPS navigation (knowledge of waste management-related systems such as ProWaste, SoftPak, etc. a plus).
- The geography of the Los Angeles Metro Area and surrounding areas.
Ability to :
- Use systems to efficiently dispatch drivers to service locations.
- Actively listen to and resolve staff and customer concerns.
- Anticipate staff and customer needs and recommend appropriate action.
- Maintain a positive attitude with customers and coworkers.
- Proactively establish trust and credibility with customers and coworkers by maintaining accountability.
- Contribute to the team dynamic by promoting inclusion, support and collaboration amongst coworkers.
- Take initiative, self-manage time and productivity through multitasking.
- Effectively and concisely communicate both orally (via radio and phone) and in writing (forms, systems and email).
- Learn the products and services offered by Universal Waste Systems, Inc.
- Type 40 WPM.
Education, Training & Experience
1. High school diploma or GED preferred.
2. Two years of related experience required.
3. Experience in the resource recovery industry preferred.
4. Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.
