Summary of Job Duties :

An NIH-funded laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at UAMS is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and responsible Research Technician with experience in general molecular biology and microbiology methods.

The Research Technician will be responsible for performing standard genetic and molecular biology, microbiology, bacterial cell culture, general laboratory maintenance activities, and performing experiments as requested by the supervisor.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in microbiology and recombinant DNA technologies. Candidates will need to be highly organized, flexible, and motivated, with excellent communication skills and computer proficiency.

Qualifications :

High School diploma plus two (2) years of experience working in a research laboratory OR Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, molecular biology or related field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

  • Have a basic knowledge of the equipment used in a research laboratory.
  • Be able to keep organized, legible laboratory records and notes.
  • Know how to use Microsoft Office.
  • Have good communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.

Additional Information :

Responsibilities :

  • Performs research experiments.
  • Keeps descriptive and accurate records of all experiments performed, data entry and analysis.
  • Performs general laboratory maintenance.
  • Trains new laboratory personnel and / or students in basic laboratory techniques.
  • Oversees staff compliance with the University, State and Federal guidelines for the safe operation of a laboratory.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned by the supervisor.
