POSITION : Special Education Paraprofessional (Contracted through EduStaff)
LOCATION : Brandon Middle School

Paraprofessionals are essential to the success of any classroom.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Associates (or higher) degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher education, or achieve a passing score on the Basic Skills Test of the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC), or pass WorkKeys test preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
- Passionate, dedicated, and committed to teaching children
- Dependable and punctual
- Provide instructional reinforcement of lesson plans, under direction of classroom teacher
- Serve as a positive, nurturing guide for students
- Model the schools professional and ethical standards when interacting with students, parents, staff, and community members
- Supervise students in both instructional and assessment activities, in and out of the classroom
- Attend to students physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs, providing assistance with language translation and hygiene when necessary
- Organize classroom and teaching materials, and verify and track student attendance
- Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, parents, and staff, and participate in parentteacher conferences and faculty meetings and events
- Proficient reading and writing abilities.
- Physically able to lift 50 pounds.
- Willing to learn and perform health care needs, after training.
- An understanding of Assistive Technology and the ability to support students with disabilities in the classroom.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Works with individual students to reinforce learning of material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual student, their needs, interests and abilities.
- Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
- Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
- Helps the student master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
- Guides independent study, enrichment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
- Serves as the source of information and helps any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Communicates with Special Education teacher essential information to keep her / him abreast of students assignments, behavior, and information shared by the General Education teacher.
- Supports students in all aspects of their day, in General Education classes, Special Education classes, hallways, lunchroom, etc.
- Able to record requested data from teachers, Social Workers or administrators.
- Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned.
- Aid the student needing assistance in self-care, including toileting, and other health care duties as required.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director, Special Education or the building Principal.
REPORTS TO : Special Education Director, School Principal
WORKDAY / WEEK : Monday-Friday, per building schedule

COMPENSATION : $15.00 per hour (contracted through EduStaff)
