Primary Duties and Responsibilities :

Under the direction of the Simulation Lab Manager, the Nursing Laboratory Assistant primarily supports clinical nursing skills lab activities by preparing lab classrooms and materials for student instruction and return demonstrations.

  • Conduct scheduled student orientation to the labs, equipment, and supplies.
  • Provide assistance to the practice of students in the nursing skills lab utilizing materials provided by nursing faculty and the simulation lab manager.
  • Maintain safety and organization of the nursing skills lab including the proper functioning of equipment and accurate inventory of medical supplies.
  • Prepare supplies and equipment for each lab session and return demonstration experience.
  • Clean and store equipment after use.
  • Properly dispose of biohazard waste; arrange for use of outside services in maintaining lab (i.e., laundry service, equipment maintenance programs, etc.).
  • Prepare and manage scheduled lab reinforcement / remediation, open lab and return demonstration sessions.
  • Prepare lab usage schedules and post in each room; monitor overall utilization of the labs.
  • Purchase and inventory ordered supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain security of the lab learning space.
  • Maintain order, cleanliness and inventory on campus labs, return demo rooms and off-site labs.
  • Set-up, run, and turnover clinical scenarios for students in coordination with faculty, Simulation Lab Manager, and lab staff as needed.
  • Evaluate vendors' products, cost and availability when making recommendations for purchase or service.
  • Meet regularly with the simulation lab manager to discuss student and faculty issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications :
  • Education

Associates Degree in Nursing required.

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Experience
  • One (1) year current practice in clinical nursing as a Registered Nurse.

  • Current practice in a variety of settings preferred.
  • Simulation operations experience preferred.
  • Licenses and Certifications
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And / or Compact State Licensure Active and unencumbered in the state of Illinois Req

  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Active BLS Certificate Req
  • Active BLS Instructor Certificate Pref
  • COD Training
  • Bloodborne Pathogens

  • Hazardous Communications
  • Working Conditions :

  • Computer, telephone, patient care related equipment and machines; low to high fidelity simulators.
  • On campus with scheduled visits to off campus labs for maintenance, restocking, and cleaning throughout the year.
  • This position requires a pre-employment drug and background check at the expense of the College.
  • Part-Time Work Schedule (Fall and Spring Semester ONLY) :

    Schedule 1 - Benefitted, 5 days / week, flexible hours between 7am - 6pm

    Schedule 2 - Non-benefitted, 4 days / week, flexible hours between 7am - 6pm

    Hiring Range :

    Starting pay begins at $23.87 / hr. based on experience.

    Competitive starting pay is dependent on education and experience. College of DuPage also offers regular part-time positions a variety of fringe benefits including retirement benefits, access to holiday pay, personal time and other discounts on classes.
