At Houston Methodist the Senior PharmacyTechnician position is responsible for providing daytodaycomprehensive pharmacy services that range from routine to advancedfunctions.

Responsibilities for this position include but are notlimited to : controlled substance management chemotherapycompounding unit dose dispensing technology satellite operatingroom and intensive care unit pharmacy assignments medicationhistories and advanced medication compounding.

The Senior PharmacyTechnician position assists with data collection and training newemployees residents and interns; and may perform other functionsnormally associated with a PharmacyTechnician.

PEOPLE ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Promotes apositive work environment and contributes to a dynamic team focusedwork unit that actively helps one another to achieve optimaldepartment results.

Collaborates with other health careprofessionals as needed for problem resolution and / or achievementof identified patient specificgoals.

Proactivelysupports and assists with training new employees and all otherpharmacy learners (e.g. residents interns students andvolunteers).

SERVICEESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assistswith optimizing the safety and efficiency of pharmacy operationsand to support the workflow needs of the pharmacydepartment.
  • Contributes indepartmental efforts to resolve drug related problems andmaximizing patientcare.
  • Presents or assistsinservices for pharmacy staff as directed by Pharmacy Management.Participates in workgroups committees and continuing educationactivities for technicalstaff.

QUALITY / SAFETYESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performsadvanced technician services to ensure efficient and safemedication distribution with activities that include but are notlimited to : controlled substance management chemotherapycompounding unit dose dispensing technology satellite OperatingRoom and intensive care unit pharmacy assignments medicationhistories and advanced medicationcompounding.
  • Providessupport to the workflow and reports problems to the appropriateparties. Accurately documents and completes paperwork for assignedrole / function.
  • Reportsnear misses and inputs errors promptly to improve processes andidentify trends. Contributes to identification of correctiveactions and improvement activities and to meeting departmental andhospital targets for quality andsafety.
  • Collects andreports data related quality improvement and productivity projectsto optimize patient safety in a routine and timelymanner.

FINANCE ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

  • Uses resourcesefficiently; does not waste supplies. Recommends solutions inachieving departmental objectives.
  • Selfmotivated toindependently manage time effectively and prioritize dailytasks.

GROWTH / INNOVATIONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists PharmacyManagement in planning developing implementing and monitoring newpharmacy programs and services that address medication relatederrors and safetyinitiatives.
  • Identifiessimple process improvement opportunities in the medicationdistributionprocess.
  • Seeksopportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies witha focus on continual development as a Senior PharmacyTechnician.

EDUCATION

  • HighSchool diploma or equivalent education (examples include : GEDverification of homeschool equivalency partial or full completionof postsecondary educationetc.)
  • Two years of collegepreferred

WORKEXPERIENCE

Two years ofPharmacy Technician experience applicable to the specific worksetting (e.g. hospital specialty pharmacy); may consider a PharmacyTechnician with one year experience as a Houston Methodist PharmacyTechnician

LICENSES ANDCERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • LPHTLicensed Pharmacy Tech State Registration OR
  • RPI Reg Pharmacy InternState Licensure AND
  • IVCertification Intravenous certification (ACPE) If applicable toassigned work area. See manager for details and trackingcertification information within 6 months
  • SCAT Sterile Compoundingand Aseptic Technique Completion of the 40 hours SterileCompounding and Aseptic course from an Accreditation Council forPharmacy Education (ACPE) approved training program if applicableto assigned work area.

  • Demonstratesthe skills and competencies necessary to safely perform theassigned job determined through ongoing skills competencyassessments and performanceevaluations
  • Sufficientproficiency in speaking reading and writing the English languagenecessary to perform the essential functions of this job especiallywith regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety orsecurity
  • Ability toeffectively communicate with patients physicians family members andcoworkers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus andapplication of positive languageprinciples
  • Proficient inperforming accurate calculations required for usual dosagedeterminations
  • Must beproficient in at least three pharmacy work areas examples includebut are not limited to medication histories advanced sterilecompounding TechCheckTech Pyxis coordinatoretc.
  • Possesses proficientcomputer knowledge; operates multiple computer systems to includehospital / pharmacy related software drug preparation pumps / devicespackaging and labeling machines automated drug dispensing equipmentprescription balances and portable data processingunits
  • Exhibits stronginterpersonal and team player skills with all levels of thehealthcare team and assures delivery of excellent customer serviceto all patients visitors physicians andcoworkers
  • Adapts tomultiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision includingorganizing work flow and actively participating inproblemsolving
