Talent Depot is partnering with a valued client in the health services industry to find a skilled Blood Bank Supervisor in California.
The Blood Bank Supervisor is responsible for the operational management of the Blood Bank Section within the Laboratory at Hospital Name , a 145-bed acute-care hospital serving Coachella Valley residents.
This role ensures the Blood Bank's compliance with regulatory standards and best practices while overseeing staff performance, training, and development.
The Blood Bank Supervisor will guide the team in evidence-based blood management and transfusion practices to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Operations Management : Lead the day-to-day operations of the Blood Bank, including inventory control, quality management, and procedural updates to meet regulatory requirements and hospital standards.
Compliance and Quality Assurance : Ensure Blood Bank operations align with state and federal regulations, including California Department of Health requirements, FDA , AABB , and CAP standards.
Staff Supervision and Mentoring : Oversee the Blood Bank team, providing ongoing training, performance evaluations, and professional development opportunities.
Clinical Expertise : Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in blood banking protocols and evidence-based transfusion practices.
Review and refine blood management protocols to enhance patient care quality.
Process Improvement : Identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiencies, safety practices, and quality measures within the Blood Bank section.
Collaborate with laboratory leadership to implement improvements and monitor their effectiveness.
Inventory and Supply Management : Manage blood inventory levels, coordinate with suppliers, and ensure the safe and efficient handling of blood and blood products.
Documentation and Reporting : Maintain accurate documentation for all Blood Bank procedures and activities. Prepare regular reports for laboratory leadership and regulatory bodies as required.
Requirements
Qualifications :
Education : Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology , Laboratory Science , or a related field.
Licensing : Valid CLS (Clinical Laboratory Scientist) license issued by the State of California Department of Health .
Experience : Minimum of 5 years of training and / or experience in blood banking .
Continuing Education : Able to complete 12 continuing education units annually , as required by licensing standards.
Preferred Skills :
- Proficiency in laboratory information systems and familiarity with blood bank-specific software.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and priorities.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively mentor staff and collaborate with medical and administrative teams.
- Ability to work independently and lead by example, maintaining a high standard of professionalism and commitment to patient safety.
