About the Role

At Fivetran, we're revolutionizing how companies access their data by building the most reliable and efficient data pipelines in the industry. We are seeking a foremost authority on databases to join our presales organization as the Principal Database Specialist. This is a pivotal role for a deep database expert who thrives on solving the most complex data replication challenges. You will be the central database expert within our global presales organization, partnering with our largest prospective customers to architect elegant solutions, and elevating the skills of our Sales and Sales Engineering teams. You will influence Product and Engineering leadership, championing customer needs and shaping the future of Fivetran's database replication capabilities.

This is a full-time, remote position based in the United States.

Technologies You'll Use

You should be comfortable navigating complex customer environments that include Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, SAP HANA, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Sybase, Ingres, and their variants.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as the technical authority on database replication during critical and complex sales cycles.
  • Architect and present robust solutions to solve data integration challenges for prospective customers.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to act as the voice of the customer, drive the product roadmap, and resolve technical escalations.
  • Develop and deliver training, documentation, and best practices to elevate the database expertise of our global Sales and Sales Engineering teams.
  • Spearhead internal specialist groups and drive strategy for key database-related initiatives across the company.

Skills We're Looking For

  • Deep, Hands-On Database Mastery : Extensive experience as a senior DBA, Database Architect, Backend Engineer, or high-level Consultant with built, managed, and scaled databases in mission-critical environments.
  • Architectural Fluency : Mastery of diverse deployment models—from on-premises monoliths to cloud-native distributed SaaS architectures—understanding security, networking, and performance nuances.
  • Replication Subject Matter Expert : Proven experience with native and third-party replication tools and the ability to position Fivetran effectively against competitors.
  • Trusted Advisor Presence : Strong technical depth and exceptional communication skills to influence CIOs, architects, and DBAs.

    The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the target position and level. Our ranges are determined by role, level, and location and may span more than one career level. Individual pay is determined by factors including skills, experience, education or training, business need, and market demands. The range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.     Pay Range $187,797 — $234,746 USD; OTE (On Target Earnings) $234,746.25 — $293,432.50 USD
