Amazon Software Builder Experience has a mission to make Amazon the best place to be a software builder. It was established in 2022 bringing together existing and new teams with a focus on modernizing processes and tools.
The organization is invested in deeply understanding the software builder experience in order to uncover areas of opportunity to improve it through tooling or process.
As a UX Researcher you will undertake generative, tactical and evaluative research to create insights about the software builder experience at Amazon.
You will use a mix of different methodologies to answer ambiguous questions about the software builder experience. You will collaborate with a team of passionate, supportive and skilled researchers to create new approaches to exciting problems.
We are looking for someone very comfortable with quantitative methodologies and approaches.
Key job responsibilities
Independently lead quant focused UX research projects (survey design, implementation, statistical analysis, quant usability, etc.
with a particular focus on building knowledge about the software builder experience.
Conduct psychometric and econometric analyses to evaluate integrity and practical application of survey questions and data
Own the end-to-end lifecycle of the study design, including recruiting, moderation, analysis, reporting, and communicating research initiatives.
Identify and execute research streams to evaluate how to mitigate or remove sources of measurement error
Work from high-level requirements and ask the right questions to gather all relevant information to guide research approach.
Collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders senior leadership, engineers, product managers, UX designers and other researchers.
A day in the life
You'll collaborate with product, design, and engineering stakeholders to identify areas of opportunity for research and become a domain expert in the Amazon software builder experience.
You will meet with the UX Research team for crit, where you'll give and receive feedback because we believe in mentorship and learning from each other.
You will most likely spend time socializing with your stakeholders / peers over lunch.
About the team
Understanding that our org has the mandate to make software building awesome for all software builders, our close-knit team of designers and researchers are making that first we build more robust tools.
More importantly, we're incorporating the best UX practices into how we build those tools such that they can be scaled out and applied by all Amazonians to make their output truly resonate with customers.
And even though we represent 50 products, the UX team meets twice-weekly to share ideas and work so we can cross-inform product recommendations for our entire portfolio.

Utility Computing (UC)
AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry.
As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
Basic Qualifications
PhD in a quantitative field, or MS degree and 2+ years of quantitative field research experience
Experience developing and validating survey measures or assessments
Experience with data analysis package (R, SAS, Matlab, etc.)
Experience leading research projects with multiple stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree (MS / PhD) in Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, Behavioral Economics, Statistics or a related field.
Domain expertise in researching the software builder / developer experience.
Experience investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to business problems and products
Demonstrable experience in any of the following areas (multiple areas preferred) : sample design, conjoint surveys, data wrangling, nonresponse adjustment, survey weighting, causal analysis, experimental design, multiple imputation

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $117,100 / year in our lowest geographic market up to $193,600 / year in our highest geographic market.
Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and / or other benefits.
