General Statement of Responsibilities :
The Assistant Director of Embedded Counseling will supervise and oversee all embedded counseling functions, including providing excellent multiculturally and trauma-informed clinical treatment, training, advocacy, prevention, and outreach services on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus.
A major role is to create and expand services on campus.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities :
Under the direction of the Director of Mental Health Services, the Assistant Director of Embedded Counseling will :
- Work closely with academic deans, faculty, and staff through consulting, developing innovative mental health programming, coordinating of services, and program review for specific academic units.
- Assist in evaluating, supervising, and engaging in the recruitment of counselors at the embedded locations.
- Coordinate with the appropriate leaders for outreach and crisis services to ensure continuity of support to embedded locations.
- Work with necessary operational staff in ensuring embedded spaces are equipped with technology, furniture, office supplies, and other equipment needed as outlined in MOU agreements.
- Serve on the mental health leadership team and attend regular meetings as required.
- Provide / conduct individual assessment and diagnostic sessions, short term counseling / treatment, group therapy, routine and urgent intake, crisis intervention, referral, triage, case consultation, third party consultation, and after-hours coverage to students.
- Collaborate and consult with other mental health providers, service providers, and campus and community partners.
- Supervise a group of embedded counselors; hold weekly team meetings; provide clinical consultation; ensure staff development and engagement, share best practices, review and approve time off and continuing education requests.
- Attend and contribute to various campus meetings, fostering educational objectives and a consultative collegial environment.
- In collaboration with the Director Mental Health Service and other executive leaders, manage and negotiate agreements with academic units and provide regular communications, feedback and reports on services provided.
- Participate in yearly merit review and performance evaluations.
- Serve on committees, as desired / assigned.
- Perform other duties as necessary or assigned.
This position is anticipated to be 30% direct student care and 70% administrative leadership.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications :
- Masters-level degree or higher plus Licensure for Practice in Minnesota such as Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker of Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
- Training and / or experience in ambulatory mental health therapy practice.
- Multicultural competence in working with students of color, students from all economic backgrounds, first generation students, LGTBQ+ students, and international students.
- Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience or equivalent mentorship / leadership experience
- 3 to 5 years of experience coordinating or overseeing counseling services
