Overview

We are seeking a full-time Senior Project Manager - Construction & Facilities in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for serving as a leader and mentor in project management activities between project teams and other departments in the development of Garmin products for mid to large scale and complex projects.

The Construction and Facilities team is responsible for the management of new construction, remodeling, and facilities projects of all types of construction including tracking and managing every aspect of the projects across the North Americas.

Essential Functions

  • Leverages advanced understanding / expertise of project management skills on complex projects / tasks, including understanding / communicating project scope, milestones, and decisions
  • Leads provision for the timely documentation of clear project scope (Ex. assumptions, internal / external / regulatory requirements, objectives / targets, validation needs, resource estimates including costs / timing) for projects of any scale or complexity, even in cases where elements are not well known (Ex. Concepts, etc.)
  • Serves as a role model for leading effective and efficient team meetings including ability to drive wide variety of efforts toward resolution / closure and identifying and resolving conflicts within the project team(s)
  • Leverages advanced communication skills to ensure team members / stakeholders are appropriately informed, leads project tradeoff discussions and drives decisions to keep projects moving forward
  • Creates and maintains complex timelines and milestone tracking and applies project metrics and risk management principles to identify and mitigate potential schedule impacting items
  • Drives project development and issue resolution through identification of risks / issues, creation of mitigation plans for projects within their segment and identification of issues which impact other segments
  • Identifies and resolves conflicts through understanding of interdependencies of and development of effective relationships between the various team(s), other Garmin teams / departments, and external entities (Ex.

customers, suppliers, etc.)

  • Utilizes understanding of product domain to contribute to advanced concept / new feature development efforts and / or research of new technologies
  • Leverages understanding of document control and change management processes
  • Works to independently find solutions to challenges, including suggesting / leading implementation of improvements to the product development / project management processes
  • Creates and / or enhances tools used to support project planning and tracking of development activities
  • Makes substantial contributions to determining feasibility of project goals / objectives
  • Mentors, evaluates, and shares knowledge with less-experienced Project Managers (Project Manager 1 & 2)
  • Provides reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques
  • Prepares flow charts and diagrams as needed to manage project success and provides recommendations on new project opportunities and associated recommendations for improvements

Operations Leadership Team :

  • Represent Operations as Key Member working with IT on the Business Requirements Competency Center (BRCC) as a Super User or expert in the Business Intelligence (BI) tools and advocate for their use in the various departments
  • Serve as subject Matter Expert (SME) for source data and provide requirements and guidance on required data
  • Assist with architecting data solutions
  • Test and data validation to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Provide structured training of reporting layers and solutions to business users
  • Identify and engage end-users as appropriate (Ex. testing, validation, training, etc.)

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Management, Operations, Engineering or related field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills as well as effective customer service skills
  • Ability to lead a team as well as successfully execute projects of any scale or complexity
  • Advanced understanding of Operations, IT and Engineering issues as they relate to engineering project management, including ability to successfully identify / mitigate risks
  • Proven communication, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills through success in previous project management experience
  • Demonstrated success in bringing together cross functional teams for effective problem resolution
  • Previous experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize / execute tasks in high-pressure environment
  • Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment

Desired Qualifications

  • APICS Certified (American Production and Inventory Control Society)
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Previous experience with Oracle ERP demonstrating technical competence in configuration of business functional modules
  • General understanding in the areas of application programming, database and system design
  • General understanding of Internet, Intranet, Extranet and client / server architectures
