What do Dental Hygienistsdo?

Dental Hygienist dutiesrevolve around conducting initial patient screenings, cleaningteeth (e.g. removing plaque) and advising patients on oral healthand preventative care.

You’ll help dentists decide treatments forteeth or gum diseases. As a Dental Hygienist, you should bereliable and able to build trust with patients of all ages.

Youshould have deep knowledge of relevant health and safety rules anda good eye for oral diseases and anomalies. If you have a steadyhand and great bedside manner, we’d like to meet you.

ResponsibilitiesInclude :

• Ensurepatients feel as comfortable as possible before theirexamination
• Sterilize dental instrumentsproperly
• Conduct initial mouth screenings andcheck oral health history
• Identify conditionslike gingivitis, caries or periodontitis
• Cleanand help protect patients’ teeth (e.g. remove plaque or applyfluoride)
• Educate patients of all ages onproper teeth care (by demonstrating, for example, good brushingtechniques)
• Give instructions to patientsafter operations or other dental procedures
• Take X-rays or dental impressions
• Assist dentists with selecting appropriate treatments forvarious diseases (including oral cancer)
• Maintain documentation and charts on eachpatient
• Monitor supplies

Skills

• Proven experience as Dental Hygienist orsimilar role
• Dental Hygiene licenserequired
• In-depth knowledge of health andsafety regulations in this profession (e.g. HIPAA)
• Experience in preparing and maintaining dentalequipment
• Outstanding communicationskills
• A patient and friendlypersonality
• Attention to detail
• Stamina to meet the physical demands of thejob
• Diploma in Dental Hygiene(preferred)
