About Global Financial Crimes

In Global Financial Crimes (GFC), you will play a critical role in identifying potentially suspicious activity, protecting vulnerable individuals, and safeguarding the integrity of the financial system.

GFC coordinates day-to-day implementation of the Firm's financial crime prevention efforts. Including governance, oversight, and execution of the Firm's Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Sanctions, Anti-Corruption and Government and Political Activities Compliance programs.

Your Key Responsibilities

As the Head of GFC Banks Advisory, you will be responsible for managing the GFC Banks Advisory team and leading key GFC projects and regulatory initiatives for the U.

S. Banks. This role will work closely with senior leaders across First Line Financial Crimes, GFC and the Legal and Compliance Division to ensure appropriate execution of the U.

S. Banks' financial crimes prevention program, including providing review and oversight of 1L KYC program execution. Additionally, the Head of GFC Banks Advisory will serve as the primary point of contact for Bank Management;

decision significant client matters that pose potential financial crime risk; and represent GFC in senior forums, exams, and audits.

The Head of GFC Banks Advisory will :

  • Advise key stakeholders of emerging AML issues and the implementation of controls to mitigate AML risks, including but not limited to new product approvals, changes in business model and / or processes and special initiatives.
  • Partner with stakeholders to prioritize changes impacting the U.S. Banks GFC program in a risk-based manner, including those that come through the formal Change Management process.
  • Act as the U.S. Banks' point of contact with 1L Financial Crimes, GFC and audit to build and iterate on AML controls including representation at official forums, working groups, exams, audits, etc.
  • Decision client matters with significant reputational risk and potential financial crimes exposure.
  • Lead and / or oversee key projects and initiatives related to AML compliance for the Banks.
  • Draft and implement critical Bank related financial crime policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and participate in all Bank related internal, external, and regulatory audits and examinations
  • Oversee the training of Bank employees related to existing and emerging AML issues, laws, and regulations
  • Coordinate execution of the U.S Banks' financial crime program changes with key stakeholders.
  • Represent GFC in meetings and on committees with senior management and other leadership groups.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking for in You

  • Bachelor’s degree with strong academic credentials.
  • 10 to 15 years of experience within the banking industry in a compliance and / or internal audit capacity or experience within a financial services regulatory agency (e.

g., Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Federal Reserve Bank, Federal Depository Insurance Corporation).

Strong knowledge of the banking regulatory environment including familiarity with various federal functional regulators (e.

g., Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Federal Reserve, OFAC, Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, etc.).

  • Strong understanding of financial markets and banking, including product-based knowledge of institutional lending, foreign exchange, portfolio lending, cash management products, etc.
  • Deep functional knowledge of the Bank / Wealth Management industries and applicable AML KYC rules, regulations, policies, and processes with preferred knowledge of and experience of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Sanctions programs.
  • Superior organizational skills, with proven ability to successfully manage multiple and concurrent priorities while working independently or with little supervision.
  • Detail oriented, with proven ability to question and identify opportunities within existing processes and business practices by leveraging previous experiences.
  • Pragmatic problem-solver, forward thinker with independence of thought and strong critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and team-player attitude.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential information with appropriate discretion, develop internal relationships, influence stakeholders, and build consensus, and thrive in an evolving workplace.
  • Certification as an Anti-Money Laundering Specialist by ACAMS or equivalent AML certification / license - or certification within first 15 months of employment.

Where You’ll be Working

This role will require in office attendance 3 days / week. Two of those days will be Anchor Days where you will be in the office with your teammates to learn, grow, and collaborate in person.

Expected base pay rates for the role in New York will be between $165,000 and $275,000 per year at the commencement of employment.

However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
