POSITION SUMMARY The VP, Head of Sustainability is responsible for spearheading, leading, inspiring, advising, developing and implementing strategies, tactics and programs that will advance Alterra Mountain Company's environmental sustainability goals both internally and externally.

The VP, Head of Sustainability will work with the Legal & Social Responsibility Team to establish Alterra Mountain Company as an industry leader in climate solutions.

The VP, Head of Sustainability is an innovative, self-driven, strategic thinker who is comfortable developing, educating, evolving and executing a company-wide corporate sustainability program.

Responsibilities will include further aligning the company's sustainability strategy within all relevant departments at an enterprise-level, including implementation of strategic action items, building and executing a pathway to carbon neutrality and beyond, leading the enterprise Sustainability Team, developing sustainability metrics for reporting and accountability, advising a wide range of functions from enterprise to resort level and establishing educational and stakeholder engagement programs and advocacy to further enhance the company's sustainability mission and goals and its Forward Stance impact platform.

The VP will be agile and diplomatic with a wide range of stakeholders in a wide-range of organizational settings, with an ability to pivot from enterprise-wide functions to working closely with resorts teams.

This role will be the lead representative and spokesperson before a diverse range of audiences (both internally and externally) for Alterra Mountain Company on sustainability matters, with high-level communication skills.

This position reports to our Chief Legal & Social Responsibility Officer / EVP, is responsible for at least one direct report, and is based in Denver, Colorado.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIESGeneral ResponsibilitiesBuild upon a forward-thinking corporate sustainability program that can be effectively implemented at all levels of the company;
  • internally and externally communicated; aligned with industry objectives; and climate impactful.Lead the execution of functional strategy, the operational direction, and ongoing assessment of a multi-year Alterra Mountain Company sustainability strategic plan, in alignment and collaboration with Enterprise Strategy;

Capital Improvement Plans; and individual resort / regional strategies.Advance company policy and goals on sustainability through activism and advocacy at local, regional, state and federal levels for the betterment of the business and the community.

Research and apply sustainability best practices for the establishment and development of consistent metrics, based on quantitative and qualitative data.

Identify and track specific, measurable and achievable goals, anticipating at least quarterly and annual reports to Executive Leadership.

Provide ongoing guidance and education in a wide range of company policies and procedures.Serve as a consultant to Denver and Resort Divisions, including Marketing, Communications Procurement, Hospitality, Development, Financial Reporting and Operations, to integrate enterprise level sustainability initiatives as needed.

Collaborate with other members of the company's Social Responsibility team in a cohesive, engaged, and team-oriented manner, with the ability to advance the professional development of others.

Work on sustainability issues relating to corporate philanthropy, employee relations, employee housing, policy and government relations, marketing, communications, third party suppliers and other functions.

Lead the company's sustainability team and build a seamless communication and implementation plan.Set guidelines and benchmarks for company's environmental impact and SBTi goals.

Create a comprehensive strategy to procure 100% of our electricity from renewable sources in alignment with RE100.Ensure company's compliance with all state and federal environmental statutes and regulations.

Stay up-to-date on potential future policy and regulation to incorporate best-practices in business in efficient and effective manner.

Own budget responsibility for the Sustainability initiatives.Serve as an enthusiastic, inclusive, diplomatic, culturally competent, and innovative strategic thinker who can motivate and inspire best sustainability practices, both internally and externally.

Experience and passion with the outdoor / ski industry is helpful.Traveling when necessary to achieve the above responsibilities.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSMinimum 10-15 years relevant professional experience in a fast-paced, high-performance business environment, with at least 3 years of people management experience.

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Environmental Studies, Business, Public Policy or other related field as applicable;

Master's Degree and Professional certifications (LEED, FSA / SASB, GRI, WELL, etc) highly preferred.A proven track record of effective corporate sustainability leadership, program development and implementation at an organizational level.

A proven track record of building, maintaining, and effectively leveraging external relationships with consultants, partners and other related organizations to further sustainability strategies, tactics and workstreams.

Technical experience in carbon reporting and reduction strategy. Specifically, with but not limited to experience in corporate certification programs (i.

e., GHG Protocol, CDP, GRI, SASB, B-Corp, SBTi)Experience in energy efficiency programs; carbon off-set purchases; sustainable investment and financial programs;

green infrastructure and capital improvement projectsExperience working with and management of innovative and complex business systems to further implement and expand sustainability best-practicesExperience leading, managing, and / or participating in affinity groups or employee resource groups.

Experience articulating a business case to key stakeholders, including an executive team, board of directors, community members and leaders.

Experience with departmental and project-based financial and budgeting duties.Experience in corporate social responsibility is preferred.

Experience supporting on and / or off-site renewable energy procurementExperience implementing internal carbon pricingThe base salary range below represents the low and high end of the Alterra Mtn Co Shared Services Inc.

salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and / or necessary travel.

The range listed is just one component of the Company's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives and many region-specific benefits.
