Associate Director, Strategic Communications (Clean Energy)

FGS Global (FGS), a leading strategic communications consulting firm, is seeking a sharp and energetic communications professional with experience in and a passion for clean energy and / or associated industries to join the firm’s Strategic Communications practice.

The role is within the practice’s Energy & Sustainability group, which has taken on and solved some of the most complex communications and government affairs challenges on a spectrum of climate, environmental, sustainability and energy issues.

As deployment of clean energy and low-carbon solutions accelerates across the globe due to dramatic investments from governments and businesses, our team is uniquely positioned to help clients navigate this rapidly changing policy and media environment with deep our issue expertise, unparalleled network of connections, and two-decade track record of success.

This position is based in our Washington, D.C. office.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as day-to-day, client-facing communications lead and coordinator clients in clean energy, sustainable materials and associated industries
  • Manage multiple projects, including task and deadline tracking from concept to completion
  • Demonstrate strong client-relations skills responsive, professional, helpful
  • Craft and deliver persuasive messaging and related collateral materials, simplifying complex policy, legislative, regulatory, legal or other general issues.

Strong writing abilities are critical to success in this position

  • Maintain expert knowledge of evolving policy, regulatory and political issues that impact clients’ sectors and a grasp of reporting trends
  • Generate media outreach strategies and pitch stories on a regular basis
  • Cultivate relationships with reporters, editors, producers, bloggers, and other media professionals
  • Work with other FGS divisions to deliver integrated services (from government relations and advertising to content development and public opinion research)
  • Maintain knowledge of evolving policy and political issues that impact client’s businesses
  • Contribute to firm’s new business process and efforts

ATTRIBUTES

  • A BA / BS degree in a related field and 5-9 years of relevant experience
  • Ideal candidate will have specific familiarity and experience with clean energy and / or associated industries (green infrastructure, sustainable construction, battery technology, EVs, etc.

Would also welcome applicants with subject-matter fluency in the climate or capital markets space, with an eagerness to develop expertise in climate and clean energy financing.

  • Ability to project manage and multi-task in a dynamic and fast-paced environment; client service experience preferred
  • Extremely strong writing and communications skills; ability to produce clear, concise press materials within tight deadlines
  • Superior research and editing skills
  • Ability to identify and cultivate key media contacts and outlets for a range of clients
  • Experience pitching stories to local and national news outlets
  • Experience with rapid response or 'war room' efforts
  • Strong strategic thinking and long-term planning skills

In Washington, D.C., the base salary for this position at the time of this posting may range from $90,000 - $125,000. Individual compensation varies based on job-related factors, including business needs, experience, level of responsibility and qualifications.
