PURPOSE AND SCOPE :

Supports FMCNA's mission, vision, core valuesand customer service philosophy. Adheres to the FMCNA ComplianceProgram, including following all regulatory and division / companypolicy requirements.

Functions as part of the hemodialysis health care team in providingsafe and effective dialysis therapy for assigned patients under thedirect supervision of a registered nurse.

Participates in theimplementation and evaluation of patient care. Responsible forreporting and documenting all new or unusual incidents,information, complaints, or problems to the supervisor.

Promotesand assists in the maintenance of a sage and clean workenvironment.

DUTIES / ACTIVITIES :

CUSTOMERSERVICE :

  • Responsible for driving the FMCNA culture through values andcustomer service standards.
  • Accountable foroutstanding customer service to all external and internalcustomers.
  • Develops and maintains effectiverelationships through effective and timely communication.
  • Takes initiative and action to respond,resolve and follow up regarding customer service issues with allcustomers in a timely manner.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES ANDDUTIES :

Patient Related :

  • Provide direct patient care forassigned patient(s).
  • Perform all technicalaspects of dialysis procedures for assigned patients as prescribed.Administer and monitor treatments in accordance with currenttreatment plan or as directed by the supervisor.
  • Monitor and document dialysis treatmentparameters on dialysis flow sheets. Document other informationrelated to the care of the patient in the individual patientrecord.
  • Responsible for reporting anysignificant information, change in patient condition, or equipmentproblems to the supervisor.
  • Assist indeveloping and following the teaching plan to educate the patientand family regarding end stage renal disease, dialysis therapy,diet and medications.
  • Assist with allemergency operational procedures.
  • Administerintravenous medication in accordance with physician orders andstate nurse practice laws.
  • Perform anddocument pre, interim, and post treatment review of patientcondition.
  • Initiate basic CPR measures in theevent of cardiac and / or pulmonary arrest, and respond to emergencysituations related to dialysis treatment.

Technical :

  • Safely operate all dialysis relatedequipment according to the proper procedures.
  • Provide minor troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Ensure a clean, safe and sanitary environment in the dialysisfacility treatment area.
  • Ensure all bloodspills are immediately addressed according to FMCNA BloodbornePathogen Control Policies.
  • Operate allemergency equipment effectively in accordance to the standardoperation procedures.

Staff Related :

  • Participate in staff meetings asscheduled.
  • Assist in short term and long termpatient care plan meetings.
  • Acquireinformation and knowledge in current practice related to dialysisprincipals and technique by participating in scheduled in-serviceclasses.
  • Act as a resource person for otherstaff members. Assist with the coordination of the care plan withPhysician, Dietitian and Social Worker.
  • Otherduties as assigned.

The position provides direct patient care thatregularly involves heavy lifting and moving of patients, andassisting with ambulation.

Equipment aids and / or coworkers mayprovide assistance. This position requires frequent, prolongedperiods of standing and the employee must be able to bend over.

Theemployee may occasionally be required to move, with assistance,machines and equipment weighing up to 200lbs., and may liftchemical water solutions of up to 30lbs.

Travel to regional, Business Unitand Corporate meetings may be required. The work environment ischaracteristic of a health care facility with air temperaturecontrol and moderate noises levels.

May be exposed to infectiousand contagious diseases / materials. EDUCATION :

  • Graduate of an accredited School of PracticalNursing (LPN, LVN)
  • Current appropriate Statelicensure.

EXPERIENCE ANDREQUIRED SKILLS :

  • One yearmedical-surgical nursing experiencepreferred.
  • Hemodialysis experience preferredbut not required.
  • ICU experience preferred butnot required.
  • Successfully complete a trainingcourse in the theory and practice ofhemodialysis.
  • Successfully complete CPRCertification.
  • Must complete the NursesTechnical Training Program upon hire or soonthereafter.
  • Ability to provide coverage at areafacilities during times of short-staffing or asrequired.
  • Employees must meet the necessaryrequirements of Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition ofemployment.
  • Good communication skills, bothverbal and written.
