The full job description covers all associated skills, previous experience, and any qualifications that applicants are expected to have.

The Kindle / Books Design and Research Studio seeks a talented, motivated Principal UX Program Manager to mature Design Systems by driving programs that improve design throughput, consistency, quality, and transparency across our Studio.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Central Studio Programs, you will own key programs and continuous-improvement efforts such as developing and deploying a state of the art design toolchain, driving transparent planning, tracking and reporting mechanisms, working with Studio teams to develop, adopt, and leverage design systems and CX guidelines, and improving connective tissue across product teams.

You will work with Design, Research, Product Management, and Engineering teams to implement simple, scalable approaches that force-multiply design efforts.

By doing this you will enable 30+ feature teams working across Kindle and Amazon’s Books business to rapidly deliver experiences that improve the lives of millions and millions of readers.

As a Principal UX Program Manager, you will be trusted to operate with independence and ownership, including in areas where the program strategy has not yet been defined.

Informing your judgement is deep knowledge and practical experience in product, software, and service design from concept creation to validation to development and release.

Additionally, you have successfully created and managed a wide range of design-related processes, resources, programs, and toolchain improvements that have delivered measurable results.

You invent, evolve, improve, and simplify in a manner that scales across multiple teams, feature types, and development methodologies.

You are flexible and comfortable with ambiguity, and adapt your approach to meet the needs of a broad set of partners. At the same time, you are adept at driving for clarity and alignment across partners and stakeholders.

Key job responsibilities

  • Partner with Design Leadership, Product and Engineering partners, and senior stakeholders to drive the definition, design, development, rollout, and adoption of Books design systems.
  • Establish predictable, repeatable processes that help Studio leaders and contributors prioritize, plan, and execute multiple parallel projects.
  • Drive implementation and adoption of improved Studio-wide design, research, and project management tools, to empower designers across our organization to work more effectively, and more easily see and build upon each other’s efforts.
  • Foster cross-org transparency by working closely with Design, Research, Product, and Engineering leaders to create, maintain and publish reporting and dashboards that share project information and illustrate progress against goals.
  • Collaborate with Design leaders and teams to adopt and leverage design systems, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Work with the Senior Manager of Central Studio Programs and cross-functional leadership to identify and implement new programs to raise the customer-experience bar for the entire Books organization.
