The Art Museum at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a DeLynn Program Coordinator for Education and Outreach.

About the Opportunity

The DeLynn Program Coordinator for Education and Outreach supports the educational and outreach functions for the Art Museum of West Virginia University, including PreK-12 school programs, collaborations at WVU, and engagement with the broader community.

This is a hybrid position. Successful applicant is expected to work at least 3 days a week on-site at the Art Museum of WVU as well as to be on-site for specially scheduled programs, tours, and events.

Administrative and planning work may be completed remotely.

Wellness programs

What You'll Do

In collaboration with the Curator of Education, develop and deliver programs for both in-person and virtual engagement with the museum's collection and exhibitions.

These programs must effectively reach diverse audiences of all ages and demographics.

  • Lead tours of the Art Museum, customized for diverse audiences.
  • Conduct research on upcoming exhibitions and individual works of art to support effective program implementation.
  • Provide support for the administrative aspects of program implementation including scheduling, preparing supplies, setting up physical infrastructure (e.

g. tables and chairs), and booking student workers or volunteers to staff tours / programs.

  • Liaise with the College of Creative Arts and Media's communications, marketing, and production teams to effectively promote and document the Art Museum's programs across a variety of platforms.
  • Assist the Curator of Education in creating educational materials including web-based content, curriculum guides, gallery supplements, promotional brochures, and professional development resources.
  • Foster and maintain successful working relationships with a variety of constituents and collaborators from PreK-12 schools, WVU, and the broader community.
  • Conduct research on PreK-12 curricula in Monongalia, Preston, and Harrison Counties to identify opportunities to integrate the museum's collections and exhibitions into the curriculum.
  • Gather, compile, and analyze data about program efficacy. This includes attendance tracking, post-program surveys, and the current visitor experience survey platform (COVES).
  • Assist the Curator of Education with special projects, as needed; work could include preparation of grant reports and proposals, presentations, and updating documents for internal stakeholders.
  • Mentor undergraduate student workers to strengthen their knowledge of exhibition content and ability to assist with public programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Art History, Art, Museum Studies, Anthropology, Cultural Resource Management, Public History, Arts Administration, or a related field.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience involving :
  • Professional or pre-professional (internship) level experience in a museum, gallery, or other similar cultural institution.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Passion for research, art, and museum work; a strong appreciation of and commitment to the mission of the museum and its role as an academic and cultural resource for WVU and the surrounding community.
  • Highly motivated, flexible, and comfortable with diverse audiences, including children and teens
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, high level of motivation and attention to detail
  • Experience in a professional environment, able to work collaboratively within a team and a diverse organization
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team, exercise judgment, establish priorities, and complete projects with minimal supervision and to adjust as new projects are assigned
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with staff, students, and faculty
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel) and Google Suite (e.g. Mail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, and Slides);
