Overview

Job Title : Law Enforcement Specialist (Instructor) – GS-1801-13

Employment Type : Full-time, multiple schedules; multiple locations

Locations : Glynco, GA | Cheltenham, MD | Artesia, NM | Charleston, SC

Salary Range : $105,383 to $156,755 per year (GS-13)

Eligibility : Competitive service federal employees, veterans, military spouses, individuals with disabilities, other specified eligibility categories

Open / Close Dates : 10 / 14 / 2025 – 01 / 02 / 2026

Responsibilities

  • Instruct basic and advanced law-enforcement training classes
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute field training and lab exercises
  • Administer class curricula
  • Monitor and document student progress
  • Recommend and execute remedial and corrective action for students
  • Participate in the development of law-enforcement program / course materials
  • Conduct research on emerging law-enforcement technologies, practices, and techniques

Qualifications

Experience (Selective Placement Factor – SPF) :

  • Experience as a sworn law-enforcement officer or agent with full arrest authority in the prevention, detection, apprehension, detention, or investigation of felony and / or misdemeanor violations of federal, state, local, tribal, or military criminal laws
  • OR held a federal civilian position in the 1801 occupational series
  • Specialized Experience : One year of specialized experience (or equivalent) directly related to the topical area(s) for which you are applying, or in instructing law-enforcement training curricula in those areas.

    Additionally meet time-in-grade requirements for current or former General Schedule federal employees.

    Skills & Requirements

  • U.S. citizen; male applicants born after 12 / 31 / 1959 must register for Selective Service
  • Pass a background investigation and meet job-related medical / fitness standards
  • Valid state driver's license
  • Obtain and maintain FLETC Law Enforcement Instructor certification within 12 months of employment
  • Undergo pre-appointment and random drug testing
  • Possess a security clearance (or be able to obtain one) if required
  • Possible firearm proficiency test for firearms instructor assignments
  • Occasional travel required
  • May be eligible for telework based on agency policy
