With a base in one of our Greater DC / Maryland local offices (Baltimore, Alexandria, Manassas), Michael Baker is seeking a talented Transit Leader with a specialization in transit engineering, architecture or planning, to help make a difference in our Rail and Transit Practice.
Consideration will be given to full-time hybrid work for exceptional candidates.
The Michael Baker Greater DC / Maryland offices have seen significant growth over the course of the last few years. Additionally, Michael Baker continues to expand its growing national rail & transit practice.
To enable continued growth both locally and nationally, Michael Baker’s Greater DC / Maryland offices seeks a Transit Leader / Senior Project Manager who will be focused on executing technical work, mentoring junior staff, and overall growth of the Transit Department.
We are looking for a leader who will participate in the office leadership team while also collaborating with their counterparts in our other regional offices to provide high quality engineering services nationwide.
You will be directly involved with development and implementation of a business strategy and work with project teams while also helping to win work and expand our project portfolio and client base.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience on design projects for State and Local Transit Agencies and be able to support projects and offices across the country for railroads, transit agencies, and DOTs.
Additional experience with Class I railroads will be considered a plus. Responsibilities include :
- Most days will be spent in the office leading transit tasks, project management, and / or preparation of engineering designs.
- Managers openly share technical knowledge and mentor and supervise engineers / architects / planners in assignments such as preparing studies, reports and supporting documentation;
quantities and construction cost estimates; and construction drawings needed for Transit projects.
- Other days you will help prepare technical proposals and reports or meet with client representatives on projects.
- On some days, you will make field visits to project sites to review, investigate, and document existing infrastructure conditions, or provide construction support services for on-going transit or rail-related construction projects.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering, Architecture, or Planning, and at least 10 years of progressive transit focused engineering design experience and 5+ years of project management experience.
- Ideal candidates will have extensive experience with DOTs. MDOT MTA, WMATA, VRE experience are a plus.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communications, excellent organizational skills and strong project management skills.
- Experience managing projects involving multiple disciplines such as track, MEP, drainage, geotechnical, environmental, architectural, etc.
and experience supervising the execution, financial performance, and quality assurance of multiple simultaneous projects is desired.
- A Professional Engineering license in MD, VA or DC is required. Professional Engineering license in PA or WV a plus.
- Ability to partner with coworkers and clients at different levels.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of products is required.
- Experience with transit new and rehabilitation design, program management and asset management is desired. Experience with additional transportation / infrastructure agencies located in the Mid-Atlantic is also desired.
COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $105,989 to $165,525. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.
Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
