JOB SUMMARY
The Endocrine Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will provide specialty level endocrine / diabetes care in the outpatient clinical setting.
Utilizing advanced decision-making skills and expertise, the Endocrine Nurse Practitioner will work in collaboration with supervising endocrinologist to promote optimal patient outcomes and utilization of available resources.
The Endocrine APP provides physician In-Basket support and clinical resources, education to staff, demonstrating advanced clinical competence in diabetes and all aspects of endocrine care.
EDUCATION : NP :
NP :
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
- Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program with a minimum of MSN degree.
PA :
Completion graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
LICENSE / Registration / CERTIFICATIONS :
- Current California RN and Nurse Practitioner OR Physician Assistant License
- Certification by ANCC or ANPP as an advanced practice nurse / nurse practitioner.
- Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) license preferred
- Must hold current AHA BLS and ACLS as minimum requirement.
- Must have DEA Licensure by first day of work
EXPERIENCE :
- Preferred 2 years previous experience in an advanced practice NP or PA role demonstrating expertise in diabetes management and technologies and / or endocrine care.
- Preferred experience with evaluation and management of non-diabetes endocrine conditions.
- Experience in electronic medical records, data management and analysis preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Evaluates and manages the care of patients and endocrine conditions in the outpatient setting.
- Obtains complete histories, performs pertinent physical exams, and evaluates diagnostics with
- assessment of normal and abnormal findings.
- Administers, orders, and furnishes and / or prescribes medications.
- Orders and collects specimens for laboratory and imaging evaluation.
- Formulates and delivers education and support with making lifestyle modifications to patients and their families.
- Facilitates referrals to interdisciplinary care team. Assist in staff education including new nurse orientation, grand rounds, and CME events.
- Assists physician colleagues with patient care coordination including patient communication, review of labs, phone triage for urgent patient concerns, and post-visit follow up.
- Assists in the development of instructional material for use in diabetes and endocrine care.
- Demonstrates clinical expertise in diabetes and endocrine management by serving as a clinical expert, role model and clinical consultant to patient care staff, physicians and other ancillary staff as appropriate.
- Assist providers with In-Basket management and coverage during vacations.
- Participates with other members of the practice to deliver team-based, coordinated care
