Senior Associate Director of Development, Major Gifts, MCD

Main Work Location : Redwood City, CA.

Schedule : Hybrid work schedule (at least 2 days per week on-site). This position is also open to 100% remote.

Stanford Medicine is comprised of Stanford University School of Medicine, a premier research-intensive medical school, Stanford Health Care (SHC), a hospital that is nationally recognized for quality patient care and leading-edge technology, and Stanford Children’s Health, the only health care system in the San Francisco Bay Area exclusively dedicated to pediatric and obstetric care.

Medical Center Development (MCD) supports Stanford Medicine with highly trained and experienced fundraising professionals and partner teams and is committed to a donor-centric approach to development.

MCD is looking for an experienced fundraiser to join their Major Gifts Generalist team who possesses sensitivity, diplomacy, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

The Senior Associate Director reports to the Senior Director of Major Gifts who leads the Generalist fundraising team. You will create strategic fundraising plans for your portfolio, including tactics to cultivate the prospect base, determine appropriate inspiring gift opportunities, and develop nuanced strategies for engaging donors.

In this role, you will :

  • Contribute to developing strategic fundraising plans for assigned objectives and execute assigned development activities.
  • Interact regularly with faculty to gain depth of specialized knowledge about their programs and funding needs.
  • Partner closely with academic leaders and faculty to develop proposals for transformative gifts supporting research and initiatives involving multiple faculty members.
  • Manage approximately 75-100 philanthropic relationships with consistent focus and high-touch engagement.
  • Develop and manage relationships of mutual respect and trust with faculty members and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on the Major Gifts team to implement fundraising activities.
  • Stay informed on current university initiatives and activities, including campaign priorities.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to promoting and supporting an environment of diversity and inclusion.

To be successful in this position, you will bring :

  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Proven ability to achieve fundraising goals and comfort working with high-net-worth individuals.
  • A sense of urgency in gift discussions and responding to philanthropic opportunities.
  • Commitment to a collaborative culture with patience and flexibility.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and listening skills.
  • Proven skills in managing competing priorities and complex issues effectively.

This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. The expected pay range for this position is $117,244 to $161,318 per annum for remote positions and $165,382 to $200,000 per annum for hybrid positions.
