The Assistant Teacher position is a ten-month, full-time (40 hours per week, school calendar) position and may include work in the After Care Program.
Job Scope and Purpose
The responsibility of the Assistant Teacher is to aid the Lead Teacher in all classroom activities. The Assistant Teacher helps to aid in maintaining the prepared classroom environment so that students are able to independently learn and practice.
The Lead Teacher and Assistant Teacher work as a team to provide an educational experience that empowers students to socially, academically and emotionally grow into global changemakers, bilingual communicators and lifelong learners.
It is critical that the Assistant Teacher is calm, gentle but firm, and respectful of students and utilizes Positive Discipline and effective classroom management of both small and large groups.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Engage in positive interactions with staff, students and parents
- Observe the children and provide assistance as necessary, while respecting the independence of students
- Provide and document student academic support with Lead Teacher guidance
- Maintain a peaceful, prepared Montessori environment
- Sanitize and clean classroom materials as needed
- Read and adhere to the guidelines of the Staff Handbook

Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate is :
- Flexible, doing whatever is needed within the needs of the day
- Open to feedback and has the desire to grow as a professional
- Able to sit on the floor, be outside during all kinds of weather, and / or carry up to 50 pounds
- Has CPR, First Aid and Mandated Reporter Training
- Some positions may require DCF 45 hours child license, VPK instructor license or other trainings.
We have positions for Assistant Teachers who speak Spanish, English, and / or both.
