Position Summary Description
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Childcare Services, the Childcare Substitute is responsible for assisting Childcare Teachers with creating and implementing classroom programming in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the School Childcare Center including but are not limited to physical caregiving, feeding and diapering, and following an age-appropriate curricular plan, and facilitation of supportive relationships with co-workers, parents, and students.
This is an on-call position and hours will vary based on The Childcare Center needs.
Essential Functions and Specific Duties
- Assist with providing and tracking responsive care based on individual needs, temperaments, abilities and cultures which includes but is not limited to feeding, toileting / diapering and medication administration.
- In cooperation with other staff, maintain a clean, orderly indoor and outdoor classroom environment, assist with classroom cleaning and organizing.
Assist in maintaining an environment that encompasses health plans for special diets, allergies, medication, and environmental health and safety standards.
Assist with assigned children in the indoor and outdoor classroom setting throughout the child’s enrollment in the program.
Implement and supervise developmentally appropriate and inclusive educational curriculum for young children.
Assist team members in keeping classroom and center supplies stocked as needed. Communicate with the Director when supply inventory is low.
Assist with retrieving supplies from the mailroom and / or kitchen on main campus.
- Actively engage with parents in an ongoing and positive manner to support each child’s developmental needs and to provide daily updates as appropriate.
- Perform with a team approach, other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School diploma required. College degree in Child Development or Early Childhood education preferred.
- At least 6 units in Early Childhood Education are required.
- At least 1 year of experience in a child care or similar setting.
- Pediatrics CPR / AED / First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire.
- Basic proficiency with Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP) specifically for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
- Basic proficiency with Google Workspace and aptitude for learning new technology.
