Lead Maintenance Mechanic/ Fleet Manager (Garage)
The Town of Mamaroneck is seeking its next Lead Maintenance Mechanic / Fleet Manager to join our dynamic team! Position available for highly skilled and experienced mechanic with significant management experience beginning November 4, 2024.

Position requires ability to work with numerous departments and agencies in all aspects of a broad range of vehicle maintenance responsibilities, including fleet, heavy equipment, sanitation, police, fire, and ambulance vehicles.
Successful candidate must be able to prioritize work based on competing demands and must be able to use computer system to manage operations, significant assets and inventory.
Requires operating and capital budget preparation and management experience. Candidates must also be available for emergency operations, as needed.
The Town of Mamaroneck sits near the Long Island Sound (Westchester County, New York) and is a full service municipal operation, for which this position plays a key role.
This position is supported by skilled and dedicated staff and appropriate budgetary resources.

LEAD MAINTENANCE MECHANIC / FLEET MANAGER (GARAGE)*
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS : Incumbent of this class is responsible for the operations of a municipal garage, overseeing and participating in the maintenance and repair of municipally owned automotive equipment.
Oversight is exercised over a number of garage personnel. Does related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF WORK :
- Oversees and participates in the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment and in the supervision and training of subordinate personnel;
- Assigns and oversees the work of mechanics;
- Inspects vehicles and equipment to determine need for repairs and replacements; Inspects and tests repair work;
- Requisitions gasoline and oil, tools and automotive parts and equipment;
- Keeps records of work done, materials used and costs incurred;
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES :
- Thorough knowledge of the tools, techniques and terminology used in the repair and maintenance of automotive vehicles and equipment;
- thorough knowledge or the accident and safety precautions connected with such work; ability to operate a garage efficiently and economically;
- ability to plan and oversees the work of others; ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential duties of the position;
- ability to use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, email and database software; resourcefulness and imagination in meeting new and unusual problems;
initiative in carrying out repair work and in seeking improved work methods; physical strength and agility; physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.
