HVAC Mechanic

Position : HVAC Mechanic

PRIMARY PURPOSE :

Responsible for assisting with the troubleshooting and repairing heating and air conditioning equipment for the district's campuses and offices and ensuring their safe and efficient operation.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Education / Certification :

• High school diploma or GED equivalent (preferred)
• CFC Universal Certified
• Valid Texas Driver's License with a good driving record and must meet and maintain liability coverage eligibility
• Vocational Training preferred

Special Knowledge / Skills :

• Knowledge of chill water systems and hydronic heating systems
• Computer literate preferred and able to read schematics and blueprints
• Knowledgeable on Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) Regulations
• Ability to use all associated equipment and tools such as Leak Detector, Recovery Machine, and Lifter Journeyman level position that must be a skilled craftsman in their trade, actual, practical working experience in the HVAC and / or mechanical equipment service industry
• Ability to work on centrifugal, chillers and screw reciprocating & scroll compressors
• Ability to diagnose problems and to formulate action plans to ensure completing the job
• Ability to wire control circuits as needed
• Ability to make on-the-spot emergency decisions when necessary
• Ability to always follow safety procedures
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays

Experience :

Five (5) years' experience in Commercial or Industrial environment (preferred)

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :

• Repair all types of heating and air condition units to include Chillers, RTU's, package units, split system units, reciprocating units, Boilers,
• Assist other technicians in the overhaul of HVAC
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot HVAC, Chillers, boilers, and boiler room related
• Conduct equipment readings critical for operations, efficient performance, maintenance history, and
• Complete internal & external maintenance and inspections of boilers, burners, boiler rooms, steam, hot water boilers and associated controls using natural gas, and propane.
• Perform preventive equipment maintenance on HVAC, Chillers, and
• Provide clear, accurate, customer-focused verbal & written
• Deliver top quality service in a timely, efficient, & customer-focused
• Ensure compliance with company, industry, and regulatory safety, standards, and
• Monitor heating and air conditioning meters to ensure the efficient and proper operation of heating and air conditioning
• Demonstrates quality
• Attendance at work is an essential job

MENTAL DEMANDS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS / ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS :

Tools / Equipment Used : Including but not limited to hand tools, small power tools, air conditioning gauges, welding equipment, volt, ohm, amp meter, temperature probes, recorders, ladders, hoists, laptop computer and all other related air conditioning equipment and tools.

Posture / Motion : Sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs and / or ramps, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, driving, traveling.

Lifting : Lifting and / or carrying, 15-50 pounds.

Environment : Frequent exposure to temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration.

Work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces, work alone, work prolonged or irregular hours.

Mental Demands : Reading; ability to understand verbal instructions; ability to communicate effectively (verbal). Maintain emotional control under stress.

The district contributes $400 / monthly to the cost of "employee-only" health insurance which is $175 / monthly greater than the state required amount of $225 / monthly.

Salary Information : 12 Months, 250 Duty Days, Manual Trades Pay Grade 7. Salary based upon previous experience in posted or equivalent position.
