Join a dedicated healthcare team as a Surgical Services Registered Nurse, providing compassionate and expert care to patients undergoing surgical procedures in a hospital environment. This role is essential in ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the surgical experience, working closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to create and execute personalized care plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Effectively communicate patient status to interdisciplinary team members in a timely manner.
- Accurately transcribe and relay physician orders, both oral and written.
- Anticipate surgical team needs to facilitate efficient procedures and minimize patient trauma.
- Contribute to maintaining surgical schedules and timely starts.
- Understand anesthetic agents and assist with anesthesia as needed.
- Prepare surgical rooms and equipment, ensuring adherence to aseptic and sterile techniques following AORN guidelines.
- Conduct pre-operative assessments and complete surgical checklists.
- Provide safe post-operative care, including medication administration and IV therapy documentation.
- Assess and document patients' physical, psychological, spiritual, and social needs upon admission.
- Educate patients and families about disease processes and treatment plans at an understandable level.
- Implement and modify individualized interdisciplinary care plans.
- Engage in continuous learning about new surgical procedures and patient care techniques.
- Assist with One Day Surgery and maintain cleanliness and supply restocking in assigned areas.
- Mentor and orient new staff members to the unit.
- Document nursing interventions and patient responses thoroughly.
Education and Certification
Graduate of an accredited nursing program with current Registered Nurse licensure valid in the applicable state.Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as per American Heart Association standards.Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications required within one year of hire.Completion of Mandatory Reporter training within six months of employment.Compliance with all federal, state, and professional licensure and regulatory training requirements.Experience and Requirements
